This idea is just in discussion though, Three won't necessarily release this functionality it was just a concept that may or may not see the light of day - no confirmation of anything from Three.
That the coverage checker now suggests it for certain actual phones (you don't need to mess around, just type in Moto G or something as your phone), and not just the "tint test device", suggests that they are preparing to release it

So you just have to have inTouch running in the background and your phone will search for and connect to 800MHz? How does that actually work in a technical sense

The phone is likely searching for and trying to connect to 800 anyway (when other signals aren't available), but at the moment 3 won't let it on the network if it's not an approved VoLTE device.

I'd guess that the system will check for inTouch (e.g. a successful connection attempt recently) and if so it will let you stay on the 800 network, otherwise it'll boot you off

The device had to totally lose all other signal before 800MHz, so I would suspect the phone went no signal before 800MHz but as I had to hold a metal tray in front of the microwave to keep the 1800MHz away, it's rather hard to tell. Might have to put a camera in the microwave as well to film what happens!

What firmware have you got on your Moto g Pedro? I've got one too but I've got cyanogenmod 13 nightly on it and TinT crashes everytime when doing the first setup when 'restoring user data'. I also don't live in a 4g 1800 area but should be able to get 800 so I'd think I can test it fairly easily if I can get TinT installed and setup.

Three has released yet another Lollipop update for the G4, where the hell is MM? My only guess is they are working on something. Hopefully working with Google to get VoLTE working on all Marshmallow devices.

Three seem to be falling well behind in the areas I have checked. Vodafone are on a roll with EE still leading the pack.

can you tell me what version of Lollipop it is, I'm on 10G.
Do you have a KDZ link for the update?

LG Bridge says the new update contains the following.

-Phone: Supports VoLTE.
-Phone usability and functionality has been further improved.
So in other words, nothing much!

So is installing Three In Touch on a device enough to gain 800mhz access, not opening up access here, i get 800mhz for few seconds before being bumped to to 3g.

If 3G2100 is available, it will always prefer that as it is higher priority than 4G800.

It doesn't seem to work yet though as I can choose the band on my LG and choose 4G only and with TiT installed it won't use 800Mhz.

Even if you force Band 20?

I'll get the kdz uploaded when i get home. As far i can tell the only difference is the android security patch level.

The image shows 10i
I'd appreciate if you could upload or link to a kdz file for H3G 10i firmware

Thanks in advance...

A little bit sad... The Moto G 1st Gen is refusing to connect to 3's 800MHz today. It loses 3 1800Mhz and then roams onto O2's 4G 800!

Sorry, I tried the microwave, various trays and the fridge.

Maybe too many people were putting their phones in microwaves after seeing your post, so the 800 mast couldn't cope. I mean, they usually only have 5-10 users at a time...

There are plenty of places around me that have 800 and no 1800. If I set my STE Blade to LTE only, it does show 4G on the screen and the tracker app confirms it's 800. But as soon as you try to call, the symbol vanishes. Need to get out there and try now I've got TinT working properly.

TinT (v4.95) is definitely not allowing my Samsung S4 Mini to work with Band 20. In fact the only thing that TinT does do is allow the phone to make or receive calls over wifi when that particular hotspot is turned on in the settings. The phone cannot make or receive calls when it is locked to LTE Only (via *#*#4636#*#*) and has a good 4G1800 signal, even with TinT running. The phone does have VoLTE Provisioning enabled, I didn't try disabling it. I suspect the TinT needs a yet to be released update before we see the new features available (and it'll probably be selectable in the options, something like 'Enable SuperVoice').

I've found part of my home where I can fairly easily shield the phone from 4G1800 and 3G2100 signals (next to a load-bearing wall with my body and hands helping shield it) and it does then connect to Band 20 but can't do anything with it: the signal strength bar shows an empty triangle. G-NetTrack has a CELLID of 10, rather than 0, and LTE Discovery agrees with a GCI ending hex 0A rather than 00 (as well as reporting Band 20, instead of Band 3: it seems they've added '3 UK' to their database in a recent update to it).

When on Band 20, LTE Discovery reports 'Cell radio status: Connected', but every few seconds briefly replaces that message with 'Possible eCSFB issue detected'. I'm assuming therefore that Three is not allowing it to use that signal because as far as they are concerned, the phone has no ability to make calls without the ability to switch to 3G2100. As such, even though the signal strength is reported within both apps as useable and it is definitely connected, the triangle on the phone is empty as Three are refusing to let it use it.

Hopefully, when TinT enables LTE calls, an automatic by-product will be that any phone with Band 20 capability will be able to use it (when there is no 4G1800 or 3G2100 of course), as the ability to make calls over LTE means there is no reason to require the phone to have a 3G2100 fallback signal in order to use 4G800.

Of course, at present, that means current non-approved phones never appear to connect to 4G800 because 3G2100 is higher priority and it will always choose that if available, and when 3G2100 is not available, it won't connect to anything at all because it can't make calls using 4G.
