I don't know what's going on with the network in the Bournemouth area, but I can hardly ever get any 4g coverage. My MotoG 3rd gen ocationally shows 4g but as soon as you start using data, it always drops to 3g and doesn't move back to 4g. The so called Three network team basically admitted that 4g sucks and that I should just wait for network improvements.

I just noticed this today. Also, there are no longer two entries for the Nexus 5. There is simply "Google Nexus 5". I'm assuming then that the Nexus 5 was mistakenly added?

I noticed too that i was never getting any 4G, so checked my phone settings and it had changed the 'Preferred network type' to WCDMA (preferred)/GSM, instead of LTE (preferred) WCDMA/GSM. So i changed it.

But i find it only stays on the LTE setting for a while before reverting back. Is it my phone (Z1 Compact) or Three doing this?

Mine stays on LTE (4G) Preferred but I think it's the Three network priority carrier profiles that are to blame. I don't know if this is something that is sent to SIM cards or if it is to do with the network transmissions itself.

I tried forcing the phone onto 4G only last night for my journey home and it was interesting that there were only a couple of dead spots in the 4G coverage. What was more interesting was that where there is a 3G dead spot, the 4G was a good strong signal but my phone never goes to 4G when the 3G drops out.

It's quite a big one as well. EE already have this site 4G'd could this be 3 adding some 4G?”

Bit more work going on with upgrades round these parts. An old street pole has been replaced with a CITL style pole. Still no sign of either 1800 or 800 Mhz 4G from the Alifabs cabinet that appeared a few weeks ago.

although this mostly concerns upgrades to the network as in 4G roll out, are three expaning their network, ie building new masts in new locations?

Men up my mast today! Very exciting, never seen anybody near it before. Posted on EE thread too but it's relevant to both so it's got to go here too!

It currently has:

EE 2G/3G/4G
Three 3G

Been off all day so had no service all day, not fun, but could it be Three 4G? Or EE 2600 4G? Doubt it actually, it's a large-ish town in Northern Ireland but I highly doubt 2600 is coming here...

Can't tell if they've changed antennae or just cables, can anyone see what they might be doing? The antennae don't look new. 4G was added about 2 years ago I think.

First image is bad quality, scroll down for better. There's a funny black band around the antenna 1st pic though? It's from about an hour before the others.

That's strange - have you got a VoLTE phone? If so, that'll be the 800MHz "Super Voice" (or whatever they call it).

I'd have thought that the phone would have lost 3G, then immediately gone to 4G...

Three have enabled 1800Mhz & 800Mhz 4G in my town now, very suprised to see that!

No way!? What are the chances (mast was down again today. It'll be EE800, but if Three decided to stick 4G on it too, I'd be the happiest guy in the UK )

Coverage map updated, my location now showing as indoor - correct.

Still hopelessly optimistic round here. Support spent 10 days looking into signal problems round here and admitted that super-voice wasn't performing as expected and was unusable and hence ending up on Orange 2G.

Got work planned for today and tomorrow so hopefully the newly installed but not activated 800/1800 4G on a nearby mast will improve things.

Still no 1800 for me but yet more "essential works" have been carried out.

I had a text from Three at the end of last week saying that the new version of TinT was out "next week" (i.e. now this week) and would require re-activation. Oddly, the text said I'd be sent an email with a link, rather than being a store update - maybe they're expanding the beta test to those who applied for the beta but didn't get in?

Paul.

Likewise on Friday 18th March on a SIM unlocked & not network branded HTC One M8.

The exact text was:

"Hi, we will have a new version of Three InTouch next week. Look out for an email with a link to download it & you'll need to be in 3G or 4G coverage to reactivate."

Brilliant, if anyone could share the link via PM or something. I'm very keen to test it too and see if it works with non branded Three devices to give access to 800Mhz.

It definitely does. I'm on the beta, and have been using it for a few weeks on my unbranded international LG G2. When I'm in an area with no 3G coverage, and the 800mhz 4G is available, that's what I connect to now. The little "Three inTouch" logo in the top left of the screen changes to a 4G signal too (whereas if I'm on 2100mhz 4G it remains as mobile calling).

It's great for getting me the additional data coverage. Always found the app itself is terrible on the G2 for attempting calls though, whether that be on 4G or even 100meg wifi. Just can't be heard clearly at the other end.

For those on the beta does Three in touch always have to be running? i.e. is there a way to 'register' for the 1st time, then not to use the Three in touch app?

I'm very happy to sign away my right to make a phonecall if I only have LTE data, I've generally always got another mobile handy away.

However, if it always has to be running, then it is certainly a price to pay for the expanded coverage. I just wish my Nexus 6P had the ability for Three to push the VoLTE settings to it! According to the coverage checker, the Nexus 6P isn't even listed by Three (despite being so by EE).
