It no longer works for me as of an hour ago so I wouldn't worry
Where does or where did the 4G option appear?

It just appears - if you're on 800Mhz the app would say "4G calling ready", and in the settings menu there's an option for it

It looks like 3 have turned off the ability for people to get access to 4G calling. I wonder if it is in preparation for a general release?

Presumably Three have remotely turned off the ability for their inTouch app to make 4G calls (and use the 800MHz band for data), in order to limit the number of things which can go wrong with the public release of v5.1.8.

Hopefully they'll turn it back on soon once they're happy it won't cause any problems.

Better still, maybe they'll update the app such that it correctly recognises that you are actually on Three's data network, as there are already other reviews on the Play Store from people who like myself can't activate it.

What setting menu are you referring to? I only see Hotspots, Options, Help, About and Exit in TiT.

Some dual SIM phones seem to present problems for inTouch. My Wileyfox Swift for example, which makes inTouch keep telling me I need to be on Three and have a working data connection (I have both!).

My Honor 5X, a phone that Three actually sells, and presumably the Honor 7 (not tried that) does let me use inTouch but no 4G options yet.

I am using the Dual Sim version of the Galaxy S7 Edge, TiT works fine.

It would be interesting to know if the official trialists still retain 4G calling after upgrading

I mean the options menu. There is (was) an option for 4G calling.

Under options there is a new entry:
"Use over 4G"
"Increase coverage with Calls and Texts over 4G" with a check box beside it.

There's a new version on the Play store today, but I don't see that option on it. I assume that option is in a new beta?

That is in the version provided to beta testers last week as shown by PrinceGaz's MD5 hash check - probably once your account is provisioned for it you will see it then?

All networks have this issue with VoLTE, and there's an obvious reason why they can't give you 800 with no VoLTE capabilities and there are limitations in android as I understand it with deploying VoLTE. It won't be just Three that face these issues I don't think.

If Three at least adjusted the priorities so 800 didn't become such a last resort it might not be so bad. Or at least switch to 800 when 3G falls below an acceptable level.

Nobody wants to cling on to 3G when there's no data flow or ridiculous latency.

Some networks have managed better than others. T-Mobile US has had relatively decent VoLTE support in Android for some time now - IIRC they were responsible for doing/funding some of the work for Google

I guess their priority is voice though, and they won't want to change the priorities unless they have absolute confidence that native VoLTE and intouch can deliver the goods

True, even EE will have issues with VoLTE though in situations where there's 800Mhz coverage but no 2G / 3G so signal bars but no ability to make calls and no ability to get the 800 / VoLTE settings to certain non EE Android phones.

That's why Three is doing it this way as I understand it.

Also they don't want too many people on 800 until they have built more of it out, otherwise it gets too congested whilst 3G gets under used.

So can we get some updates on who sees the additional menu item on the new app and what model of phone you have etc?

LG G3 non Three worked with the beta
LG V10 did not work with the beta and no menu option on the new app in the Play store

Xperia Z2 bought from Three store, worked with the repackaged app linked earlier.
As of today both reinstallation of that app and the one released today in the app store (same binary of course) no longer works. No option, no conection after airplane mode toggle, nothing.

Does anybody have the old 4.9.5 APK? I would like to try something that could fix this problem.
