True, even EE will have issues with VoLTE though in situations where there's 800Mhz coverage but no 2G / 3G so signal bars but no ability to make calls and no ability to get the 800 / VoLTE settings to certain non EE Android phones.

That's why Three is doing it this way as I understand it.
How will EE have issues as you say? They will limit access to 800mhz to compatible phones only.

All networks have the Android VoLTE settings problem is what I meant, especially where 800 would reach areas that other spectrum might not.

Xperia Z2 bought from Three store, worked with the repackaged app linked earlier.
As of today both reinstallation of that app and the one released today in the app store (same binary of course) no longer works. No option, no conection after airplane mode toggle, nothing.
Same with an N5. I hope it's not just because they've noticed us, but really because they're planning for an imminent public release

It'll be a nail in the coffin if not. At least for me.

Luckily for me most places I have good HSPA.

So something strange going on tonight. My phone is set to LTE only and I just happened to check the settings to see my phone has set itself onto the 800mhz Band 20. I'm on stock firmware but rooted to allow LTE only connection. I'm fully covered by 1800mhz lte and 2100mhz DC-HSDPA so it's strange I'm sitting here on 800mhz. Getting around 5mbs download speed.

Yes should have mentioned that, Galaxy S6 standard stuff, did a aeroplane and now it's back on Band 3 and now if I force it to band 20 it just says emergency calls only. Very weird

Heard that Three is upping personal hotspot to 30GB? What happened to the argument that tethering was destroying the world?

Jon you've really got to stop twisting things, a minority of customers with unlimited data used 90% of the network capacity. These were the 100's of GB customers using it for home broadband etc as you well know.

Allowance doesn't equal usage, the heaviest users were the issue according to Three, the top 5% used a huge amount of data, not 5, 10 or even 20GB.

And now people can do that again, as 30GB is pretty good for a home broadband replacement.

And to repeat myself, the problem with excessive usage was of Three's making and I have never said they should have kept it. In fact, I was someone who said they should have capped it.

Three did what it did (is doing) to raise more money, and it is willing to give away more data again in return for a few extra pounds.

So can we get some updates on who sees the additional menu item on the new app and what model of phone you have etc?

LG G3 non Three worked with the beta
LG V10 did not work with the beta and no menu option on the new app in the Play store
It's probably also worthwhile stating if you were selected for the trial or not, since it may be that Three are limiting usage to numbers which have been enabled (when applying for the trial, it was necessary to provide a phone number).

I'm on the beta, downloaded from the Play store (through the trial) on a non-Three-purchased Sony Xperia Z2 on the latest stock firmware, and I see the "Use over 4G" option. This has given me 800 coverage in the past, but I can't check again at the moment, since I have good 3G coverage right now.

Paul.

Looking at what they have just announced on Twitter and their blog (http://blog.three.co.uk/2016/03/31/8846/) it looks like actually it is a seperate 30GB plan rather than upping personal hotspot to 30GB. So yet another price plan that fits underneath AYCE which will no doubt push the AYCE plans up in price yet again.

Are they going to rejig the pricing for the lower tiers?

12GB, 1 month contract = £30.
30GB, 1 month contract = £33.

This makes total sense

Unfortunately looks like it only applies to contracts starting from today. Anyone prior to today will still have 12GB 😤

Quoting myself because i can't edit .

Looks like both are the case. So Personal Hotspot on new AYCE plans goes upto 30GB but there is also a new 30GB data plan as I mentioned above.

Strangely the 30GB plans are the same price as the AYCE plans. Presumably that's an error. I bet the AYCE plans will go up in price a few quid soon enough...

Just had a text from Three to look out for a new Three in Touch App. They know I have an iPhone so looks like an iOS version is coming out. Sorry if playing catch up! Will this give me access to the VERY elusive 800 that I seem to be bathed in at home but can never access?

Disagree - not in an iPlayer, netflix, amazon prime world. 100 to 150GB / month for a household with 2 adults, rising to nearly 500gb a month if you have teenage children as well.

I didn't mean for everyone, but as not everyone is streaming on demand I think it's at a level that many could live with. Even EE tops out at 50GB on its home broadband service, although you can buy more.

Jon I wasn't referring to people using it casually as a hotspot now and again on their phone and having an allowance of 30GB of which some users would use 5 and some might use up to the maximum.

As you well know I was referring to a monitority using it for their main home broadband, for full xbox, windows updates, iso downloads, TV streaming, etc. As you know the average fast home broadband user uses 91GB per month (communications market report Ofcom 2015). Three wanted to make hotspot mean portable hotspot, as in use your phone in a cafe or bar for your tablet from time to time, not used 100GB or more per month like a minority did which lead to these hotspot caps.

On a different note, the beta APK worked on my LG G3, but the Play store version now it is available no longer works, no longer allows 800 access. I was not on the trial, I cheated and used the APK which was posted here for testing and it did work previously.

I hope Three push out a settings update to activate the menu for people so that we can re-enable the VoLTE at some point. Has anyone heard any more about it?

Brendan from Three (who does the videos of new handsets) has said on Twitter that non-Three supplied handsets won't be able to use 800 on Three.

He said it because he has imported a number of phones from China (personally) and isn't worried about the lack of 800.

I sincerely hope he's mistaken!
