Must be low end plans, or is this a way of making free features now technically chargeable?

Wouldn't you expect to be told such details when signing your contract?”

Seems like an evolution of "but we offer 4G at no extra cost.... even though we're raising your normal cost and reducing value"

Something odd going on.

Perhaps it's going to happen gradually so people don't notice.

Initially it will be low end plans with minimal amounts of data, few calls etc - then gradually it creeps up. If someone points out the change, Three can say they've had this policy in place for months and nobody complained.

Apparently these new essentials plans are being launched today. If anyone finds out the details, please post here.

Getting a really weird issue, 4G was enabled on my local mast and for the first few days it worked a treat. It is still there however whenever i try and do anything that places a demand on the network (Youtube/speedtest). It initially caps out at around 70Mbps for 2-3 seconds then looses connectivity. it just looses the data connection (4G tag disappears) then when i stop using data it re-appears again. Only seems to do it on the 4G from my local mast, the one from town works fine and doesn't do it.

Yep I've had the same problem today as described above. Thanks for confirming before I call Three.

Well i'm thinking of leaving Three as my home seems to be in a bit of a 4G Blackhole , even on their map it's shown all around the village but missing on the surrounding streets .
I've been testing an O2 PAYG Sim and i get 4G in my sitting room . Good speeds....

Download-29mbps
Upload-4.62mbps
Ping-47ms
Compared to the available Three 3G....
D-5
U-1.3
P- 68.
Will go for the O2 12 month sim only offer at the moment - Unlim Mins , Unlim Texts , 10GB Data for £18 . Only use 5GB at the most per month on Three so 10 seems to give me a bit of leeway .

Haven't seen anything on the website but noticed this:
http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/network/three

Under Feel at Home it says 'Excludes Essential Plans'. Also, if you go to buy a phone and look at the 3 plans then they all seem to be listed as 'Advanced Plans'

New roaming texts: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CmwK9V9XgAEdjNS.jpg:large

Include wording about essential plans.

Nothing specific to state what an Essential plan is on their website but it does say here
http://support.three.co.uk/SRVS/CGI-...e=Ext(EM38751)
"* Feel At Home is included in all plans, except our Essential plans. If you’re on an Essential plan, roaming in Feel At Home countries will still be chargeable."

And on their Roaming page it says
"Please note, on 1 July 2016 we will be making some changes to our international roaming pricing."
http://www.three.co.uk/Support/Roami...Roaming_abroad

And is Alternative Roaming Provider(s) a new thing to Three? (though they admit to not having any, yet)

Within the past 6months I've seen a ex Orange mast be upgraded for EE 2G/4G, but it's also broadcasting Three L08+L18. So at least some ex Orange masts are receiving Three 4G.

I haven't had a chance to check 3G, but if Three L18 is broadcasting presumably 3G has to be present for voice fallback.

When do Three typically update their coverage map?

Well last night i cancelled our 3 contracts , only took 40mins of listening to offers , i told them i wanted to cancel because we don't get 4G where i am and i got the bad end of a deal when we were moved off the One Plan . They didn't seem to understand that it wasn't because of a technical difficulty (had i reported it ?!!?!) it was bacause i'm in the middle of a 4G Blackhole as shown on their coverage map . They said their people would soon be getting 4G in my area if i just hung on (told them to look at the hole !) .
They kept throwing offers at me , including the equivilent of the one plan for £14 !
I asked why they didn't offer me that 12 months ago....
I'm just waiting for our O2 Sims to arrive now !

I was assured 5 years ago that coverage would improve very soon.. Still waiting!

To be fair there is a lot going on down here in Devon. Lot's of new 4G and today it said Supervoice was available to my postcode. Except it's not to my house as the postcode covers a wide are. I don't think it will be for a long time unless 3 or EE or MBNL or whoever get their fingers out and do one of the most important masts in the South Hams. I guess CTIL will get there first. Never mind.

Just phoned up Three to give them notice of my 12 month contract ending and told them I was after a cheaper 30 day sim only plan. After a short chat was offered 4GB Data, Unlimited Minutes and Texts for £13 a month on a 30 day plan. Very Happy!

I have to say I've moved from EE to o2 and I'm very happy.

I have used Three before but since moved to Vodafone can not complain at all. In the urban areas the coverage is good. Outdoor coverage is good but as soon as I enter the properties signal just vanishes.

What's the latest with Three then?

Havent tested it for a while, are things better now with SuperVoice and 800mhz?

Are speeds on par or close to that of EE? Coverage etc?

Are there any MVNOs that use Voda or O2, offer 4G and allow unlimited data? I suspect not, but I think that would be a good deal.

I have EE on my work phone and it's not as good round here as I expected. Three is better due to 800mhz 4G.

But I think there's a tonne of Voda and O2 masts so I think you'd get at least something.

EE are likely to launch there own 800 with 4G calling very soon so watch this space.
Also it is to be set above 3G so you won't have to loose signal to get it

Got the Sims this morning , have to say i was a tad disappointed when i put them in and it would only connect to 3G , the PAYG Sim was still showing 4G , contacted an online 'Guru' and he said i needed an 'iPhone Bolt on' , no mention of this anywhere , he's put it on both sims and will become available at midnight .
Anyone else had this problem ? Good job it was free as i certainly ain't paying for it as it mentions 4G on the shop info for the deal !

The idle cell reselection hasn't changed, so there's still problems with being on the cell edge of 3G and being unable to get on 800MHz. Device support has increased a little, and of course there's the limited support of 4G voice through ThreeinTouch.

Speeds are nowhere near that of EE. EE are using two and a half times the spectrum in city areas. EE also have more masts broadcasting LTE in all areas.

Supervoice coverage is supposedly around 65%.

Yes I had that problem I got an iPhone sim and it came with the blackberry bolt on so trying to keep it connected was a challenge. You'll have to switch your phone off and on in the morning.
