4G seems buggered in a lot of places. I am sure it will be fixed and is somehow linked to the 800 roll out.

Same thing here, there was planned maintenance for the 27th which has completely disappeared.

I notice this too where I live. EE has an extra 4G site so a lot of traffic is offloaded to that for them, but this particular MBNL site is hugely congested on one cell ID, it covers such a vast amount of area and most of it is jam-packed with houses, businesses and busy streets. It goes all the way through those and into a huge Morrisons store too. You can stand next to this site and speedtest the 3 4G on that sector at around 1-2mb during peak times.
Also my "planned maintenance" for the 26th now seems to vanished.
It's most unlike Three to say they are going to do something, only to have it disappear without a trace. [Do I really have to mark that as sarcasm?]

I have a similar issue on one of the masts near my house. It will connect to a strong 4g signal for about 3 seconds and switch to 3g. Contacted three about it who wasn't aware of the issue but now they are and have admitted there is an issue and will be fixed shortly. They say its very complex issue 😐

Is this a 4G signal that you normally get that's now acting up, or a 4G signal that's new?

Mine has also vanished but even more bizarre is that the coverage map now shows in in outdoor 4G coverage where it didn't before. Not sure how that works when maintenance wasn't due till next week lol.
It is extremely poor outdoor coverage as you can see where the indoor coverage is from and it's about 3 masts over.

I wonder if it's connecting to 800MHz briefly and then dropping you down to 3G as it's not supposed to be public yet.
I remember when Three was upgrading masts in my area from 3G to 1800MHz 4G, every time they would add 4G to a site, my phone would connect to it briefly, then it would go from 4G to no service, and then connect back to 3G. It would repeat this cycle until some point when they decided to make the 4G go live, then it just worked.
But every time they added 4G to a new site, my phone would handover to the new site if it had a better signal and the same thing would occur. This happened 5 separate times as my house gets signal from many different sites.
I have been playing with http://www.evrytania.com/lte-tools/7...e-cell-scanner and a cheap and nasty RTL TV stick, and it thinks it can find two or three cell sites at 793.6MHz (they have different IDs). I don't know much about LTE so I don't know how relevant the .6 is.
But anyway, according to http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/bin...al-results.pdf that's in 3's 800MHz allocation.
So I wonder if I'll suddenly be seeing a lot more 4G once it gets switched on to the public? I am in rural Cornwall. There is a nearby 4G site that is in full service but that may well be 1800MHz

Switching on 800 at full power would presumably give about a 3x boost in coverage if they're running their current 1800 at a lower power. Considering on how much they're focusing on 800 at the moment I presume (hope so so much) that it'll be a bloody great big boost in coverage.
The 3 site on Wonersh Semianry that got upgraded to 4G happened very quickly, they only got permission end of March. It has 800MHz listed with a power level of 80, 1800 with power of 320, 2100 at 220 and 2600 at 80. This site also carries EE DS 4G. Waverley WA/2015/0275, GU5 0QX

If they are only going run 800 at 80 imagine that 1800 reaches further so what is the point.

Maybe 80 is the maximum LTE is licenced for in the UK? If it is anything like DTT then analogue signals were about 5X more powerful than digital signals however cover about the same distance broadcasting at 5X lower power.
Could it be the same for this, that 2G is licensed for up to 320 but 4G at 80 will cover a similar distance on a similar wavelength, or even a greater distance on a longer wavelength? That's presuming they are running 2G 1800 at 320 and are only able to run 4G 1800 at 80 the same as 800 and 2600.
Also possibly explains 2100 at 220, as each generation goes by it becomes far more efficient.
Of course this could all just be total rubbish I'm spouting

Pretty sure that Vodafone/O2 are transmitting at higher than 80.
Funny you mention DTT it has never quite covered the same area as Analog TV.
That will be a big kick in the crotch if after all this time waiting for 800mhz 4g launch from three, they cripple it to same as or less then 1800mhz coverage.. Think I'd leave them purely on principal..

Ok thanks for that info, I haven't seen planning applications with the output power on for quite some time, most Manchester ones don't tend to show it.
And yes DTT doesn't cover the exact same area as what analogue did, but if they were ran at equal power DTT would cover many times more than what analogue could.

Even if the transmitted power was to be 80 if 4G @1800 is also 80 then the much lower wavelength would be where the benefit came from. As far as I remember the planning applications only differentiate between frequency and not technology, so the maximum output for different technologies could be different but not shown.

Yep, all gone now (in all locations). Either we all imagined the work, there was a glitch in the coverage system or Three have pulled putting the work on the coverage checker all the work until some kind of announcement.
Is it possible to attach images as I have a screen shot of the work planned in Edenbridge before it disappeared.

but 4G was working fine there for a long time (at 1800MHz) now all of a sudden it wont connect to 4G for more than 3 seconds before dropping to 3G.
Even if it was 800MHz connected, why would they disable the 1800MHz frequency?

I guess that was in reponse to Id Mobile offering a 20GB Data only sim, its still slightly cheaper from ID at £20 / month and Id Mobile also use the '3' network.
I'm into my second month of using them, and so far so good.

Hopefully won't be long until it works. Being kicked off after a matter of seconds is what happens when a new site is commissioned and is undergoing testing (in my case when I spied 4G at home, I had intermittent access a good few weeks before it officially went live).
As you had 4G before, perhaps this is an issue relating to adding more sites locally - or just a mistake. A mistake you'd think would be spotted quite quickly at Three's NOC. I mean, wouldn't it be quite obvious that nobody was using the site?!

I had this problem with my local EE mast, no 3G of 4G randomly, took ages to get them to actually look at it as they "couldn't see any issues" I guess it doesn't come up as a fault for some reason, eventually I had to demand to speak to someone on second line who understood what I was talking about and raised it.

What is the point of 20gb for £20 when you can get the Unlimited data add-on for the same £20?
Can you do something different with this 20gb one that you can't do with the other like tether?
Tethering on a normal tariff now tops out at 8GB, so MBB is the only way you can legitimately top that.
And BT, TPO and others that offer 20-31GB for similar money all restrict tethering too. Irrespective of whether it works or not (it's still a breach of the terms).
