Is 2100MHz LTE (is this band 1) well supported? I assume that it should be fairly easy to support given that phones already have 2100MHz antennas for 3G

The earliest 4g iPhone 5 had band 1 support but no one uses it in the UK yet but I'd assume it's quite a common band.

Will that be all of the 3G spectrum or a large chunk to keep voice on the 3G network for older devices? I don't know the stats but if I remember I thought three has 35mhtz at 2100 so would it be the case of moving 25 of it on to the 4g frequency?
The document stated 2*5MHz would move over to 4G to begin with, leaving 2*10MHz for 3G. Eventually I'd assume they'd move to 2*10MHz at 4G leaving the minimum of 2*5MHz for 3G.

Yes it is very well supported, it was only the very early 2012 phones that supported only B3/7/20, most phones nowadays support at least B1/3/7/8/20, so also 900MHz.

Vodafone have started using it in South London and the West of the UK.

Incorrect Vodafone is rolling out 2x10mhz L2100 aggressively in cities across the UK.

London is 2x10mhz city wide as is Manchester. Birmingham, Glasgow and Liverpool are also getting it. Vodafone now have 2x10 U900 for 3G and 2x4.8 U2100 for 3G

He meant a commonly supported band by smartphones.

The only aggressive thing about Vodafone is their tax avoidance

..and avoidance of rural areas for any kind of internet, if it's not a major city they don't seem to care.

They have been sweating 2G assets for a while

I don't think I'd use Vodafone if they paid me. My work phone is voda and it seems to stick to edge more than 3G and speeds seems pretty slow ping times compared to Three, though using that 2100 on 4G could be a massive game changer. They have the same amount as three have with 3G. Could Vodafone switch that all to 4g in 1 go or would the network require new 4g equipment for that frequency?

They're switching 10Mhz to 4G and launching a 2nd carrier on 900Mhz for the 3G. More may come later ( well it will have to go at somepoint just whether it's sooner rather than later).

Can be done pretty easily on urban masts as it's all software defined radio, is being done as a remote configuration push so doesn't even need an engineer visit.

Are Vodafone using one radio unit that does it all then? So the 4G stuff is connected to the 2100MHz antenna already etc

(e.g. it's not MBNL style where physically separate equipment handles the 3G and the 2G/4G)

I have produced quite a number of videos explaining Vodafone's L21 deployment and mast technologies.
Cellular Playlist
Vodafone 2100MHz 4G (and 1800MHz 4G)

The BTS modules used today are typically frequency specific and RAT flexible, which means a 2100MHz module can carry, for example, 3G or 4G or both.

Seems to be! Don't know the exact specifics and I suspect it depends on individual setup and area but for the ones I've seen they've simply changed the config on their end pushed it to the masts all at once and they've switched it. Instant 10MHz boost in Manchester.

Experience wise it hasn't re-invented the wheel and it can't CA on all but the most recent phones (LG G5 is the only one I know that does it, maybe the Note 7) but it's lifted the city in terms of there's now nowhere in the day utterly unusable, we have a bit of 2600 as well in very limited places and that's as fast as ever. Small steps I suppose.

Well it looks like the very latest update being pushed out by Samsung for the S7/S7Edge (Sim Free) has removed the VoLTE switch under Settings -> Mobile Networks.

VoLTE support for me was always spotty (I never flashed any different firmware), but at least it was available. Without a reliable way to test it where I live, I can only wonder what they've done to it now.

Can anyone confirm if this actually stops VOLTE working? if so I will likely give the update a miss!

As stated in my other thread I'm surprised to see how slow the 4G800 rollout is in London. In most locations where I never get signal nothing has changed, I have only once seen 4G800 since it rolled out...

That's interesting. I wonder if problems have meant they have terminated support for it? Will it return? Will they do the same with with Three firmware? At any rate this is worrying.

I wouldn't worry, if I remember correctly they also removed the toggle after updates on the S5/6 but VoLTE remained permanently on.

That'd be great. Oh, for comprehensive change logs eh?!

I still haven't been able to confirm if it works.. I used to get the VoLTE icon in the notification area for a few moments just after rebooting but that definitely doesn't happen now. Not conclusive either way really..

Managed to test out after the update. I managed to successfully use volte and place a call.

Here seems like a good place to ask these question as everyone seems to know what they are talking about. Sorry if it sounds like 20 questions.

I have just got a Samsung S5 (SM-G900F full size not mini). Now I have already flashed this with a Three ROM (Marshmallow) and it now thinks that it comes from Three. It's down loaded all updates: Samsung ones, Google ones and settings from Three.

1. Will I get sent the VoLTE update now?
2. Apart from locking myself in the cellar, is there an easy way to tell if I have it?
3. Are there any really useful simple programs that will tell me what signal I'm on? IE 1800 LTE - 800 LTE - 3G ect?
4. Has some clever bod made available the update that I can download and apply/flash or listed the settings that I can change by hand?

Or am I out of luck?

Thanks for any help you can give.

If you root it you can force 800MHz.
