It's definitely less of an issue than when I first got the phone a few weeks ago though, as it connects to 4G *some* of the time. And a quick turn off and on of 'enable 4G' seems to do the trick.

Another interesting thing I've noticed recently is my phone displaying '3' and '3 UK' as the network name interchangeably. I always used to get '3 UK' until I moved abroad for 18 months from mid-2012. When I got back it was just '3'. Anyone have any detail on this?”

SImilar observations here. I did install 10.1 beta 2 last night and will be intrigued to see if it makes a difference. I'm not in a 4G area currently but should be over lunch. Certainly there whilst 4G will work after a reboot or toggling some settings/network scans it soon settles to 3G only - annoyingly.

I've noticed the 3/3UK only very occasionally. I wonder if it was just a flicker from any locations where O2 2G roaming is still active (though my phone still shows O2 in those places)

Please do let us know whether there is any improvement on the beta!

Not sure I'm with you on the O2 2G roaming? What's that in relation to?

Anyone else sign up to that Three beta program thing that they emailed about? Got an email yesterday telling me I wasn't accepted, did anyone get in?

Thus far I have not and don't intent to reveal any details of the trial I may, or may not, be taking part in!

Yes I got the email and was accepted. I was told that I will be receiving another email with details on how to download the app etc.

When Three launched in 2003, they used O2 as a backup 2G roaming network for those locations not covered by 3's own 3G network. I can't imagine there'd be any 3 phones still connecting to O2 though, as 3 switched to Orange for their roaming partner about 10 years ago.

Even roaming onto Orange is pretty uncommon these days as Three's network is now sufficiently developed that it's not needed (plus the fact that the requisite Orange masts are pretty few and far between as they've now mostly been absorbed into the EE network, which is based on the old T-Mobile infrastructure).

In my area I can get a 2G "Orange" signal on multiple devices, i'm taking a educated guess Three have deployed it in areas that struggle to get signals.

To compound the complete lack of 4G on my 7 plus I managed to get Edge on three for the first time ever the other day.

How?

Three doesn't have access to any data carrier on its Orange roaming. You should only see the 2G icon, no o or E would show...

Not sure how that could happen either as there isn't any data service on Orange 2G roaming.

I've seen it before as well but it only stays for a few seconds after just roaming onto Orange.

Ah, then it should flash up with something like data service disabled or some wording to that effect, it only lasts about 1 second (the data service message).

I was accepted and received the same email. However, it says that they would email again on the 6th with details on how to download. It never arrived.

Have you received yours?

Haha!

By the way, for those who want to know why I kind of stopped posting here. Basically I moved into a completely different industry. Still try to keep up to date on everything here of course, but not on the same level as before.

Three's 4G coverage map changes

Blue = 26th August
Red = 8th October (today)

1800: http://gdurl.com/C2bl
800: http://gdurl.com/YFdB

For those interested, its been over a year since 800 went live so I've done comparissons for year-on-year too:

Blue = Early Sept 2015
Red = Today

800: http://gdurl.com/V4B9m

Can we really have any faith in Three's coverage map? It's been completely wrong in my experience since 800MHz was first rolled out...

Yes I got an email asking to fill out a form to provide them with my Google account email if it was different to the one they already have. I filled out the form but haven't heard back yet.
