I'm the opposite.

Been with EE for a year, am on unl all and 6gb for £12 per month sim only (after cash back).

Have bought a three sim only, unl all and 30gb data for £17 after cash back.

Going to use three in touch app for wifi calling until three allow the s7 edge to work natively.
TiT works, but its not as convenient as native functionality - that's one of the attractions to EE for me. With the S7 you'll get the 800 / Volte access, I had it on my s6 & briefly a note 7 - there's a definite improvement in coverage with it, have a Pixel XL now which Three don't seem to be interested in supporting (according to twitter).

I've noticed that where I live, 3 have turned on 4G800 as of yesterday. The mast in question is not broadcasting 4G1800 off either 3 or EE. I was wondering whether 3 have done this as they are switching on more sites out of panic about EE launching 4G800 next week or whether it's a deal with EE where they are both activating 4G800 on some masts together?

Could be by mistake? Is it on full power?

I'm not too sure but it appears to be on full power. The mast in question is based on a hill about 3 miles out of town. There is a also a 3g mast right near the town centre. I was in a few pubs in the town last night where I got about 2 bars of 3g off the mast in town and I was getting between 1-2 bars of 4G800 off the mast on the hill so seems to be travelling a fair distance and still providing decent in building coverage.
Its also worth noting that there is another mast at the edge of town on another hill that gives off 3g (EE and 3) but also has 4G1800 on EE only, this was an ex Orange 2g mast which was converted about 6 months ago but no sign of 3 4G coming from that

See Ofcom has put the info out on the 2.3 spectrum and 3.4. Seem steep prices for it as well. Good to see BT/EE can't buy on 2.3 as they have too much spectrum already. Anyway what do people feel Three best option will be to boost there 4g capabilities. I'm sure there not bothered about 5G so can't see them looking at 3.4 slice but I was thinking they may look at quite abit of the 2.3 spectrum but how big are there wallets and can they be bothered to pay for it? Looking at the graph ya can really see why Three will be struggling and price wise you get a lot more for your money with EE now £25 for 20gb is pretty good.

Can Three afford to bid? I get the impression they want to somehow be gifted spectrum because they have so little.

These high frequencies are great for future data demands, but it will require a lot more sites for Three to enable, as well as the small cells that the likes of Vodafone and O2 are investing in to boost indoor coverage at shopping malls, airports, stadiums, rail stations etc.

Can Three afford to do that? And by that I mean, will the key investor let them spend the money?

I don't think the range of 2.1GHz 3G and 2.3GHz TDD 4G would be very different.

Yea probably the same due to 3G cell breathing and robustness of 4g

I am guessing that was a very special deal as it is not on their website.

So therefore not generally available.!

When my local 3 mast switched on, it only had 800 4G for about a week. 1800 was turned on after that week, so I assume it's coming! EE did have 1800 on this mast already though.

Nope, It wasn't difficult to get, it was on the EE website and available to all but ended last week.

Calls are a bit pricy though, being a data SIM.

Three are currently offering 3 months free on 12 month contracts so the regular price of £26 for unlimited calls unlimited texts & 30gb data is reduced to £19.50. There is also a Quidco £55 cashback which reduces the price to under £15/month.

Ah that might be what they'll do. Mind you I'm not that bothered about super duper fast speeds, I have 200 Mbps FTTP broadband at home which I can do my heavy downloading and uploading from. I live and work in rural mid wales so coverage footprint is more important to me.

Also, there is a couple of MIP masts south of Aberystwyth which went live in the summer which only broadcast 3G and 4G800 on 3, no sign of 4G1800 which I find odd

The other day I realised that I hadn't seen 4G on my iPhone for a while & eventually realised that months ago I had switched it off while in France & mucking about trying to to get the best signal. TBH I hadn't noticed any difference in performance for my usage (calls, texts, email, web browsing, iPlayer Radio & banking apps). Nowadays it's really unusual for me to find anywhere that doesn't have signal for Three.

Is this via a B4RN-like equivalent in mid-Wales?

There's a fair bit of Openreach FTTP around Aberystwyth, I've seen plenty there. Could be that if they're near there.

Yep you're right, just standard openreach FTTP. However I actually live just outside Welshpool, very close to the English border. I do work around Aberystwyth though and you're correct in saying that there's a lot of FTTP around the area.
There's a fair amount throughout the whole of mid wales to be fair, the vast majority being provided by the superfast cymru rollout.
It was a shock for me going from 1 Mbps ADSL to FTTP, a nice shock though

Anyone know if super voice/wifi calling will work in a sim free LG G5?

Or does it need three software on it? If three software, can you flash a sim free G5 with three software to enable wifi calling and super voice?

Thanks

Wow - Impressed with Wales' activity there. I wish Cheshire would learn a lesson....

Just answered you on XDA.
Supervoice/wifi does not work in sim free LG G5.
Flashing the 3UK software doesn't make it work either.

It needs more system level/ root work...which I could potentially do....
Anyone have 3UK LG G5, which they are prepared to root/share?

There is also a lot of Openreach FTTP in Cornwall (something like 1/3rd of homes). Unfortunately it's a textbook postcode lottery, so much so that your neighbour across the road can get it but not you. Or you might actually be in a more densely populated area and have nothing, or have crappy FTTC, but Farmer Giles on his many acres can have 330Mbit FTTP for £50 a month if he likes.
