Somebody got it working on the LG G4. Perhaps the same thing would work on the G5?

My thinking is similar.... the G4 mods on the G5 doesn't work. Need to see the files on the 3UK LG G5....anyone have one with root?

just an update.

i got the G5 today, its got 3 software on it, i updated to latest software OTA, all seems well.

what im finding is Wifi Calling only works when in Aeroplane mode! cant believe it!

I have factory reset it to no avail.

not sure what to try now, i know three in touch app works but do not want to use this. looks like there is a bug somewhere :\

I think WIFI Calling will only work if there is no signal on the netwoork. I did read that on their website where wifi calling is. So that is why it works when you are on airplane mode as there is no signal. If you catch only one bar of mobile signal wifi calling will disappear

ahh! i see, this is not like EE's wifi calling then where it uses it first (which im used to with my S7 Edge and EE sim)

anyone concur? (just so that i stop trying to troubleshoot!)

yes that is the right one. But dont know how it will switch between wifi calling and mobile signal like EE. They have managed to change from wifi calling to 4G and the other way.

Guys, looking for your honest opinions on Three nowadays?

I was on 3UK for a while a couple of years ago and IIRC the call reliability was pretty good and maybe less dropped calls than EE!. The letdown was indoor coverage, especially at work where only VO2 4G/800 and 3G/2G would penetrate the building. No EE either.

So I'm currently on O2 and works OK but I am not particularly happy with the dropping down to 3/2G quite a lot despite good 4G. In addition 3G speeds are still pretty poor and general UK coverage is still not great for data.

Back at work I do now see EE 4G and 3UK 4G when I search networks. However as 3 have this somewhat daft policy of not letting my device register on the 4G/800 despite VoLTE support (the OP3 works on EE 4G/1800), I can't test it properly.

Therefore I'm considering a new contract with an S7 edge so that I can use VoLTE (super voice). What are your experiences with 4G/800 VoLTE? A LOT better coverage and good reliability/quality using VoLTE?

I'd say your best bet would be to get a payg sim and pop £5 or £10 on it and do some real world testing.

My reason being, sometimes at home I'll get between 40-70mbs on 4G, other times I'll get anywhere from 5-20 and it's better off switching to 3G.

However at work, my phone will rather stick to 1 dying bar of 3G, than 2-3 bars of 800mhz 4G which is much faster, and my device is VOLTE capable too. Only way to get on the 4G is to toggle aeroplane mode and start data flow right away.

Step outside work and I get 3-4 bars of 1800mhz 4G which can get me 60-90mbs speed.

I'm on a sim only deal with a 6s plus and supervoice does work better. A local wacky warehouse which was a total black spot until this week when I've started getting 4g band 20, as more and more masts are upgraded it should improve a lot. EE are starting there roll out and the price difference now between EE and Three is not so big so I don't know why you wouldn't go EE. It has more spectrum, more 4G coverage and 25gb limits so unless Three is a big cost difference I would look at EE. A recent speediest on three I got

So, this 2300MHz spectrum that Three are planning on bidding on - is it for LTE band 40? I'd been looking at the OnePlus 3 recently and I noticed it supported it. If Three were successful and it got rolled out, would it be used for carrier aggregation?

Also, I know it's been more or less discussed to death, but if they do fail in obtaining this spectrum, would they start to refarm their band 1 spectrum - and if not, why would they be reluctant to do this?

TDD-FDD CA is still a relatively rare feature if I remember correctly, wouldn't bet on the OP3 being able to do it or indeed any SD820/1 device (if anyone knows one doing it please let me know I might buy one!). X16 / SD835 devices next year might support it.

Band 1 will be coming on Three, still probably got a rather large 3G base though so they need to keep that as a sustainable layer for voice etc. I'd say some point next year for the beginning of refarming. Ideally they'd have VoLTE first but that'd mean interlinking the 800/1800 with handover etc.

Was in Meadowhall doing some last shopping this afternoon/evening and it was pretty busy.

Three was pretty much at a standstill, 3G speed test resulted in pings in the 200ms range, download speed of 0.04 and upload speed test fails.

1800mhz 4G was around 4mbs with the uploads around 20mbs range but 1800mhz 4G coverage isn't very good in there.
When I managed to get on the 800mhz I was getting around 12mbs download/upload, however I kept getting booted back to 3G annoyingly!

Still would appear to be on the Three mast 20 miles away but the signal is blooming resillient in my home.

If EE can get 800 on a mast close by I'll be set.

Any thoughts on doing a boot loader unlock and root?

Not that I'm aware of. Nor O2. Just EE and Vodafone.

Three gets the data from Ookla, so it's a shame they couldn't let us do tests without using data. Not a problem for AYCE plans, obviously, but others...

The RootMetrics one is what you're after, doesn't use up your data allowance, available on both App Stores.

You sure? That's true for EE but not Vodafone or O2, and not Three to the best of my knowledge.

Use Net Perform for Vodafone or even the My Vodafone app as that now has a built-in speed tester.

I believe the user I was quoting asked what Speedtest app to use for EE, which is why I said Rootmetrics. Being on Three I'm aware there are no options for me other than to have a large data allowance .

... or not to waste it all on speedtests and just use the phone normally.
