I'm going to write a small tutorial on how to look at the 800MHz coverage yourself, to save people asking for different areas, it's very easy if you know how, please try and follow these instructions:

Quote:
“Instructions for Chrome:
1. Navigate to http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Network/Coverage
2. Search for the postcode/area you want to see in the checker
3. Once the map shows the location you want to see, press F12 on your keyboard
4. Copy and paste this line of text and press Enter: window.coverageTypeToSearch = "800";
5. Copy and paste this line of text and press Enter: h3g.coverageChecker.addOverlay();

Instructions for Firefox:
1. Follow the above instructions exactly, but before step 4, you must type allow pasting into the box before it will let you paste the lines of text”

If you type in a different postcode/area once you have done this, it will revert back to the standard 4G/3G coverage, and you must repeat this process, so best to scroll around the map rather than type every postcode you want to check unless you don't mind repeating the process.

Thanks to lightspeed2398 for finding this out.

F12 doesn't work on a Mac, only windows. The keyboard shortcut on a mac would be Cmd + Opt + I

When do people think that this 800 overlay will go live?

On the 10th or weeks later?
Or only if you phone can do VoLTE?

I think the map will go live at the same time "4G Super-Voice" becomes public, so on the 10th. I'm sure we will see that purple puppet talking about it, with adverts of him smashing through walls or something.

The coverage checker for 800 will probably only show if you select a device which is compatible, as suggested by another user. There's no use showing it to everyone without clarifying that it only works on selected devices, otherwise people would get mad.

i am well informed it costs the networks very large amounts to get Apple to do special carrier files in between IOS updates to enable features.”

Where are you seeing that? I would have thought that the timing of all this (launch day after new iPhone announced) sets things up for them to use the new iPhone in their advertising.

Up to 50 /per cent of population on launch day so expect a big change then (with probably some teething problems)!

If you use the one Three DD mast in Boston, Lincolnshire as an example, the coverage according to the new DD (800MHz) extends 18 miles out. Area = π.r.squared = a thousand square miles. No wonder they think they're going to get 98% coverage. That new coverage does not include the updated area from one of my local masts either.

For those of you who like spreadsheets/datasets...

Using the URL that litespeed found that returns the coverage details I've pulled together the following spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

It represents the coverage of the first (alphabetically) full postcode in each postcode sector in the UK.
Unfortunately, to poll the UK's 1.3million full postcodes would have taken forever, this subset of ~11,500 is much more manageable.

Looks great, thank you! However, just to take one example, BT48 6AA , shows 800 coming on the spreadsheet, but there's no coverage on the 800 map, not even anywhere near, because the whole of Northern Ireland is showing no coverage on 800 map.. How did you arrive at certain postcodes in NI getting 800?

I'm only compiling what Three's website returns, so for that postcode it shows this:
http://www.three.co.uk/maintenance/c...ode=BT48%206AA
which says
Quote:
“"devicespeed":{"postcode":"800 Coming","speed":"100"}”

I'm presuming here but I'd guess the postcodes that have the plain '800' are those that are launching now/soon, with the '800 Coming' being the planned/continued roll-out over the next year or so.

Still can't figure this out, where exactly should I paste the two lines? - In the Web Console Search? I tried this but all it does is find the two lines of code on the web page.

That's a lot of areas without 4G getting it through 800 soon. Good work (yes, I like spreadsheets).

Well I took the plunge and got my wife a 12 month SIM for £17/month (unlimited data, 200mins and 4gb hotspot) - no mention of the 8gb hotspot, but don't use that much anyway).

She was paying £10/month on Tesco so thought she could benefit from the extra data (and better network) until April and also have the guarantee I'll have a SIM only deal for £17/month if they do decide to put up the prices by then.

They did offer that I could buy out of the contract and go on the SIM only deal, but they wanted £230 (might have done it if it was £130 as I'd be signing up with them for another year SIM only).

She is going to change her Tesco SIM to PAYG and then use the Three SIM as data only (she has a dual SIM phone).

I might have it back in April if the prices of SIM only go up or they cut back on unlimited data.

I'm guessing the SuperVoice (or whatever it was called) will not be launched on the Huawai Honor 4X (supports 800mhz 4G, but not sure about that)?

Right at the bottom left of the screen is a blank (grey on my screen) text input box.

The coverage map and description which tells you what coverage to expect are updated separately, the description is normally more accurate than the map.

What does the speed figure in the last column mean? Lots of 100s and then tiny numbers.

Don't know if it's been mentioned on the coverage checker already, but it's now asking which device I have when I check on the postcode (I'm guessing it's an update to find out if your phone supports 800mhz).

I've managed to work it out in Chrome as I've never done it before:

Get the 4G map up of your area and press F12 (as stated above) - this will bring a split window up with loads of different small text.

Click the CONSOLE button and then paste the first line of text into the bottom of the console and press enter (the line with disappear) and then do the same for the 2nd line.

The map will now change to show the 800mhz 4G.

I'm not sure, I noticed its on a lot of the 800ss maybe its a default value that will be updated to one of the smaller numbers once it's live

Hmmm, I now have 3 days of works scheduled in my area in September. 7th, 9th & 17th.
All scheduled for 6 - 8 hours.

I can't see any mention of 4G coming to my area (Broadstairs) but I live in hope.
