Just read this article about the Nexus 6 VoLTE working on Verizon:

Interesting that it came about by simply enabling the VoLTE option in the *#*#4636#*#* menu, and it just worked without Verizon doing anything on an unlocked device. According to that article, it just started working once the option was enabled on Android 5.1, without Verizon even pushing their "Advanced Calling 1.0" update (their equivalent of Super-Voice).

Hopefully, people with unlocked devices get the same treatment, and Three's scheduled rollout list applies only to phones they have sold that require them to push software updates to enable VoLTE. I guess most devices don't have a built in option to enable VoLTE like the Nexus does.

Also, I suspected this last month, but now I'm sure that Orange roaming has been disabled in my area. Last month I noticed no signal instead of the usual bars but no data. Same thing today, so I did a network search and even though 3 shows up twice, I cannot connect to one of them. So it's broadcasting for some reason but it's not connectable. Weird.

No, it does't give any indication regarding improvements, it just says 3G/4G both have 'Good service' as you'd see on the normal website when searching for your postcode

Work planned again for my area on 12th September, no idea what they are doing as even the 800mhz layer workaround on the coverage checker show's nothing. No 4G whatsoever.

So far there has been work done in this area 'to improve my network experience' at least once a month since Easter and twice in August, yet the 3G speeds crawl, barely getting above 0.5mbps, no obvious improvement on any occasion.

I believe iphones will get it via a carrier update, so as long as it's unlocked to be used on EE then you should be good to go

But yeah, same as with WiFi calling. If it's an iPhone and it works on the network, you'll get the service.

That's Nexus 6 only, the VoLTE settings are contained in the kernel somewhere, unlocked devices won't get it.
Google included the IMS settings for T-Mobile and Verizon as I understand it, so it won't suddenly work on Three etc.

As I posted previously, when I did the coverage check through the normal route, any postcode I looked at in the west of the province had planned work around now followed by more work on the 24th.
This has now changed to the greater Belfast area having work on the 24th with everywhere else having scheduled work on the 29th.

Fingers crossed. I do hope this is good news and that Bangor gets some 4G magic as well.

I checked Bangor post code BT19 7HB, which is for the Three Store in The Bloomfield Shopping Centre. Work is planned for 24-09-2015.

Signal is getting worse in and around my area. Masts are switched off all over the place. Cs are no help. Contacted executive office yesterday

Unless my galaxy S5 or Note 4 was bought from three it will not work on 800mhz correct?
Is there a way to flash my S5 or Note 4 with three software? and if so will it likely work then?

I don't think that's the case based on what I've been told. As long as the phone gets the update should be fine. Doesn't matter if it's unbranded or Three firmware.

I have a sim-free Sony Xperia Z3 on a sim-only contract from Three, it supports band 20 for 800Mhz, and my area has work being done today, apparently - whether this is to enable 800Mhz I'm not sure.

Have Three announced supported handsets anywhere? Also, I presume this requires a software update of some sort, even for sim free? Or will it just start working when the phone detects an 800Mhz signal?

In the case of Nexus smartphones, don't they already support VoLTE, it's just up to the carrier to enable it?

Another thought: I'm assuming auto-switching to 800MHz will be blocked but if you force the bands will you also be blocked? I'm assuming yes.

Inital speed test was 11.6 Mb down and 7.7 Mb up (ping 50ms) - happy camper at last!

I'm not sure that's the case. Only the Nexus 6 supports VoLTE at the moment and probably the upcoming Nexus 5X/6 2015, but I'm fairly certain Google and not the carriers have added the IMS settings into the Nexus 6 ROM. VoLTE on the Nexus 6 has only been announced for T-Mobile and Verizon in the US, no At&t and no VoLTE in Europe

Exactly. We have no idea which phones will work and what workarounds there may be. At the end of the day if you pay for a good phone then yes, you might expect the network to make sure it works or might expect Apple or Samsung or HTC to get on and make it work. If you have bought a cheapo phone like I have there is no point crying about it. eBay it and get something which will work. Or do without it. 3 can't be responsible for all the many hundreds of versions and overlays on Android floating around out there.
