Just saw this list of locations Three say will be enabled on HDUK, I don't think I've seen it posted here before.

As far as how they will filter the handsets this will almost certainly be done in IMS using the HSS (Home Subscriber Server).
It can be done using IMEIs as an IMEI can identify the make and model of the device. They will create a whitelist of allowed devices and all others will fail to register. Currently that whitelist contains just the S5 it seems. They can also check if it's a Three handset. This is how EE block non EE phones from using WiFi calling I think. RAN Man will shout at me if I'm wrong..... ![]() I also didn't realise phones were blocked from EE WiFi calling? I think RAN MAN or another in the know poster did once post it was possible for the network to see if the device was setup for VoLTE, but then I still don't understand how tablets/dongles could register on 800MHz, unless they are IMEI whitelisting in addition to looking if the phone reports VoLTE compatibility. Also gavinashford and myself have both been able to get on 800MHz with non VoLTE devices, I was only able to get on it for a minute but gavinashford seems to have been on it for a day or two now. |

Phones aren't blocked by IMEI for wifi calling, if you flash the EE firmware and change the CSC to EVR, then it works

If you install LTE Discovery in the advanced stats the last entry is something like the following
Type: mobile_800apn State: DISCONNECTED/DISCONNECTED Availability: Is available Not sure what that means though |

IMEI SV (Software version) is more likely as this is also available to the networks. The IMS voice over PS setting built into the firmware is another control mechanism possible.

I had no idea what a SVN was before now, thanks for enlightening me that they could be used for this purpose. So I guess there's the possibility non Three devices will never get 800MHz? That's a bugger if true. Hopefully they can detect any dongle/mifi/tablet from the IMEI regardless of network. Edit: Just googled IMS voice over PS and that looks immensely difficult to understand ![]() I just hope Three or someone else can come forward and confirm whether tablets from other networks will work on 800MHz or not etc. Edit 2:I wonder if unlocked devices will be in the weird position of being able to get VoLTE on 1800 but not on 800 because the IMEI will be unknown to Three? |

4G at no extra cost. You can connect to our 4G network at no extra cost if you've got a 4G device and are in a 4G area. You can do the internetting you love, even faster. Nothing there about having to have a 3 phone, but admittedly there is nothing about 800Mhz being available anywhere? |

Hi unfortunately you wont ever be able to use your unbranded note 4 & s5 for Three's super-voice Volte & 800mhz 4G. I sent a long customer service message asking for proper answer's, reply i received this morning was that only compatible phone's bought on a three contract or on three payg will be able to use the super-voice Volte & 800mhz 4G. This means anybody who bought an unlocked phone & put a three payg sim card into it wont be able to use Three's super-voice, reason Three haven't made big song & dance about super-voice or any announcement on three website is because they know the many people with compatible devices that they bought unlocked would all start to complain. I've got a OnePlus 2 it has 800mhz frequency which would of helped with my bad signal inside my house. Switching to O2 once my add on runs out, O2 works great indoors as there 4G is 800mhz, 3G & voice calls 900mhz for all there customers unlike Three who are picking & choosing who can use there 800mhz!
That would be the official Three reply as that is how things work officially, however it is unclear whether we can flash Three firmware unofficially or that won't work either because of the IMEI whitelisting. We should know in a couple of days when people including myself have tried and either succeeded or failed. |

Okay, I'm slightly puzzled here.
My S4 Mini is LTE Band 20 compatible (800MHz), and is supposedly VoLTE capable according to "some sources". I purchased it from Carphone Warehouse so it is therefore unlocked. I've got the BTU XXUCOD3 baseband, which I believe is what determines how it connects to mobile networks. Would Three deliberately limit VoLTE to devices which have received their specific OTA update, and not allow it on unlocked devices? Do I need the H3G XXUCOE3, which is the latest S4 Mini update from Three? I'm familiar with the BTU and H3G codes, and the year/month/version of OD3 or OE3. It just seems a bit silly not to roll it out to all compatible LTE models. |

Just did a check and there is a software update for my Three branded S5 so currently downloading it now (641.63mb over the air update).
I have 4G in certain parts of Harlow where I live (mainly North and Central), but unsure if it was getting the 800mhz? I can normally get 1 bar of 4G upstairs in the front bedroom so hopefully it works and I can turn on the Download Booster eventually now on my phone. ![]() I've even unplugged my signal booster box in the anticipation for the phone to go up to full 4G signal (where I was lucky to get 1 or 2 bars of 3G before downstairs). ![]() My postcode is CM20 3** |

Nope, it has 4G but doesn't mention the super duper 800 4g unfortunately
"4G coverage in WF1 1DE on Samsung Galaxy S5 Good service. You should be able to use the internet in most instances on our 4G network. Indoor signal strength may vary. Galaxy S5 is compatible with our 4G network. |

Well it upgraded ok apart from removing a few of my icons on my home screen (luckily I have got a Nova backup) and also for some strange reason I can't seem to find Speedtest on my phone anymore.
It came up with 2 bars of 4G on my phone both upstairs and downstairs and then I tried to call my wife when it had the 4G symbol whilst downstairs and it took a few secs to ring here and went through ok and she could hear me, but it has dropped back down to 3G again and no sign again of 4G.

4G back again now with 2 bars (like I say was lucky to get anything with 3G downstairs before).
Managed to find Speedtest now as it was not in app drawer getting around 46 ping, 10meg down and 6meg up. |

I could only check with the partial postcode you gave which doesn't seem to say if the new 4G is available.
Try putting your full postcode in http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Network/Coverage and put Galaxy S5 where it asks for your handset and see if it mentions super voice. |

Is there a reason why 3 concentrated on the S5 today and not the S6? It seems a bit odd to not do the real "flagship"?
Not that it bothers me as I have a totally different phone that will probably never get volte |

Not that it bothers me as I have a totally different phone that will probably never get volte Or it was in case the launch went badly, and then mostly older customers would be affected and not customers who may have only just bought an S6 in the last month or so. |
