I reckon he's right. iPhone will be the next logical step as it's a closed OS so easy to iron out bugs . Maybe also some select Samsungs / HTC etc. No sense in just opening it up. It's a long game and they aren't going to bend to furious forum rantings.
That was the date in an earlier post by someone (21st October). I've just been to the Three Store to have a chat ahead of making my big decision tomorrow at 8 a.m (iPhone 6 Plus S). I'm sticking with Three. I am in an area that has no 4G but if I had an S5 (according to the coverage checker) I would have 4G. For all I know the signal and speed may be worse than 3G but I have no way of checking that and won't be forking out for an S5 just to check it. The way I see it, they switched on the 800 side of things as they said they would and that includes VOLTE, I think they are the first network to do so? The list of eligible phones will grow almost by the week and will include the 6S (my guess) pretty soon. So I'll be sticking with them. It was between Three or EE and from what I can see Three are getting better in coverage areas I care about and were starting from a pretty strong position already. Everyone's experience is different of course.....

Yes, they are the first with working VoLTE in the UK at least (assuming it works). The list of phones will grow and I think if you have a current iPhone you have nothing to worry about. Matter of weeks probably.

I expect VOD and EE will be coming out with VoLTE in the next few months so by early 2016 it will be standard and the amount of handsets will rise and rise.

Looks like Wakefield has been switched on today. Super voice is here . It shows when I add the S5 haven't looked at the iPhone yet as we know it'll be next month. I've just done a little wee 😀😀

Does anyone know what the handover between 4G and 3G is like during a call does it handover or cut out? Thanks

Looks like it's been turned on in Newcastle city centre too:

"Excellent.
You can make calls, send texts and use the internet in most instances on our 4G Super-Voice network. You should also get super-fast call set-up times and crystal clear HD-calling. Just so you know, indoor signal strength may vary."

Shame I don't have an S5 to play about with

Well I updated my friends S5 to the latest update with the August 21st kernel but no obvious signs of 800MHz working. In the dialer settings it had use volte if available selected, but I had no opportunity to get to a 1800MHz area to test it.

Will update again on Monday.

Supervoice is up in Guildford, Godalming etc, and around bits of Leeds I've tested. If I force my phone into 4G only and then do a network scan and register on 3 UK, it does connect and come up with 0/1bar of 4G before cutting out before any data can flow

Looks like 4G 800MHz has gone live in my area too.

I'm being told I have "good" coverage and looking at the coverage map that isn't coming from my nearest mast, so I'll have to get an S5 to test it out.

O2's strategy is to get bought by somebody so they can give up trying.
O2 gave up trying years ago

One thing I don't like about the new software update is that just to the left of the 4G symbol there are always 2 horizontal white arrows when it's showing 4G (still the same vertical up and down arrowa under the 4G symbol so not sure what the new ones are for (they are constantly white))?

Could they be to show that I have VoLTE (SuperVoice) available?
Yes
Have you been able to test it yet?

Scrounged a mobile broadband sim to try in my iPad Air 2. Coverage checker suggests that this should have access to 800. Managed to find an area with good 800 and no 1800 and it resolutely refused to use it.

Anyone tried it in a data only device with different results?

I have a PAYG MBB SIM in a non-3 mifi device which is on 3's device list, and I have the same thing. 3's coverage checker switches to the 800 map and says "You should be able to use the internet in most instances on our 4G network." There is no 1800 here.

What's more interesting is that this SIM has no credit on it, but I have full internet access over 3G

Not looking promising
I really hope they have whitelisted the entire tablet/mifi etc IMEI range and not just those sold by Three.

But we haven't even seen evidence of VoLTE working yet, although Mark in Essex post suggests it might not be long before we see.

Looks like data devices can't access it then although given what the checker says perhaps this will change.

I'll try and give it a fuller workout over the weekend as I know few areas where there's 800 but no 1800 and report back.

I am not 100% sure there is available 800. I know there is something transmitting in 3's 800 allocation, and the coverage map says yes, but my device claims it either can't find anything or just finds EE. Either it's just my mifi being cantankerous or it's scanning the two bands in turn and EE shows up when it's in 1800 mode. Who knows.

Hi can anyone answer this for me, will the phone handover to 3G for 4G mid call? Or will I'd have to disconnect to switch down? Thanks

P.s... Are 3 likely to upgrade all their sites to 800 nationwide for coverage and capacity?? Is it still common knowledge that 3 plan to use 1800 in towns and cities for capacity and speed, if this is the case would 1800 have to remain within 3G cell areas or would 1800 power ramped up eventually also. Thanks again guys your all awesome I've learn a lot from here.

I don't think there's anything in the spec to even transfer data up to 4G from 3G mid connection, let alone voice data. The connection has to stop transferring data for you to get moved up to 4G.

I flashed the Three firmware on my Z3 not so long ago. Hopefully that will be supported soon.

Interesting to hear about the 2014 Moto X connecting to 800 though. I've got one of those too. I have 800 here so probably should just try!

I think it's an option in Release 11 so it depends. If they are on anything lower then definitely not.

I'd suspect no as generally going from old tech to new tech, on call, although possible isn't a priority for networks (like going from 2G to 3G) unlike the other way around which is essential due to coverage differences. However this is an interesting one as there are likely to be a number of places where 4G800 is better than 3G so it could help maintain a call in some circumstances.

I can confirm that VoLTE on 800MHz works very well.
http://imgur.com/2JU1ctD

I had to flash three firmware and then do about four updates.
Speeds range from 10mbits to 25mbits

P.S. I'm new here but a regular reader

Also I usually use a home signal box and with 800MHz, it's no longer needed

What's the coverage like around your area then?

Hopefully it will, Sony phones handily display if the firmware contains any IMS settings or not, so upcoming support should be easy to spot.

I didn't actually have access to 800MHz long enough to test anything on the Moto X 2014, but it definitely received it, whether a glitch in the HLR or Cyanogenmod tricking the HLR I'm not sure.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on being the first person to screenshot Three VoLTE.

Would you mind checking what date you kernel is? The latest I've seen is August 21st but I'm wondering if a more recent version exists.

Also could you check your IMEI SV? I'm guessing it is either 09 or 10.
