In the dialer type in *#*#4636#*#* and you get access to the testing menu, in Phone information there's a dropdown for "Set preferred network type"
I saw that menu. But unfortunately there is no 800 explicit option.

Is there any way to do the same with an iPhone 6?

Ah sorry, I read 4G only, not 800 only - as far as I know there's no way to force most android phones to use a specific band.

I don't know, I don't have an iPhone so I dont know what settings or hidden menu's are available.

This just appeared over my area today: We're planning some network improvements in your area on 16 September 2015. We're really sorry if this affects your services. It's crucial work that will improve your network experience.

Hopefully they are going to replace some antennas, the large majority of sites surrounding me are using high-band only antennas, so my area does have 800 coverage but barely. These are all MBNL sites, so if EE wants to use 800, these antennas are going to need replacing.

Anybody know what the difference is between Three's Super-Voice on 4G and Three's HD-Voice on 3G?

One is packet switched voice over LTE, the other is circuit switched voice over 3G? (just with a better codec)

Oh-Kay. Would people notice the difference?

Three describe their 4G network as "crystal clear HD-calling", so what does that mean do you think? SV or HD?

HD, should be about on par with any other VoIP call (Whatsapp call for instance)

You shouldn't notice much of a difference unless there is a problem that is affecting one technology but not the other. It's the codec and the bitrate it runs at that really dictates quality. I'd suspect that 3 will use the same codecs and bitrates on either network, to avoid the need to transcode from one to the other as it can be resource intensive (I don't know if that's what they actually do, but it is how it is done on other voice/video over IP systems)

I've never seen them try to claim that 4G has anything to with call quality

The page that shows future maintenance on Three seems to have vanished for me?

http://www.three.co.uk/Support/Network_and_Coverage is redirecting to the normal coverage checker

Likewise - I noticed that last night! Maybe it's blocked from Northern Ireland IP addresses, as others here are still able to see maintenance schedules?

Could someone outside Northern Ireland try http://www.three.co.uk/Support/Network_and_Coverage using a Belfast postcode please e.g. BT1 5GS which is Belfast City Hall?

I get the coverage checker and nothing special for that postcode.

It would be nearly impossible for 3 to block one region of the UK - IP address assignments don't really work that way. A BT customer in Belfast may be "IP neighbours" with a BT customer in London

Seems so, but it still tells you above the coverage checker if there's any maintenance going on

I stand corrected. I guess you could argue that 800Mhz VoLTE will bring HD calling to more people, as you currently have to be within 3G coverage. inTouch and the home signal box both don't support HD Voice as far as I know (I definitely don't get HD voice on my home signal)

I'd hope before that. Plenty of phones that should be compatible. Z3, Z3C, Z3+ and probably also the Z2 or even earlier.

I have had my S5 for well over a year which is the launch phone for Three's Super Voice. I have been running a custom ROM for ages but i decided to go back to stock (well 3's branded firmware for the purpose of testing out Super Voice) but it fails upon flashing. I am able to flash the unbranded version no problems but that is useless i reckon. I did read on xda you need to flash a compatible PIT file along with the carrier firmware in order for it to pass through. Anyone have any idea?

The only Three firmware that I got to work was http://storagecow.eu/Xda/Galaxy%20S5...G1ANG2_H3G.zip

It had about 4/5 OTA updates before you can actually make VoLTE calls. The only thing I forgot was to factory reset before flashing when I did it the first time.

Hope this helps.

I just wanted to know if anybody knew where I could get Three firmware for an LG G4. I've only seen an O2 and stock UK one. This is because of the alleged VoLTE update coming tomorrow.

I would prefer to have no Three crapware, but it seems they haven't given me a choice.
Unless I wait next year for Three inTouch to work on "4G Supervoice" which isn't the ideal solution.

That's the latest H81510E KDZ with a kernel dated Sept 7th. Strange thing is I can't find any IMS settings in the ROM, don't know if they will suddenly populate tomorrow or there's some sort of issue.

So is this the one specific for Three UK?
