Are there plans to allow 3G to move up to LTE during an active data transfer?
I hope not! Because I don't use 4G anymore. I live in London and when 4G was first released by Three, it was incredibly fast. Now it's so congested that I get around 1-3 Mbits on 4G, whereas I get 15-20 Mbits on 3G.
Until the 800mhz spectrum and all the phone updates are completely done, I am not turning on the 4G for my phone.

If you have 4G turned off why would it concern you? If you are 3G only your data connection can't be anything but 3G...

I would kind of hope so. If you were outside on a 3G call and then went indoors you are going to need Reverse SRVCC otherwise the call would drop.
No idea how difficult that is to get to work though.

EDIT: Obviously that's what the situation is now anyway but once people see they have an indoor signal it's going to be a bit hard to explain why the call won't transfer to it.

Anyone know whether reverse srvcc will be used?

Just rang Three, they have no idea when the G4 will be supported but said to call back in 14 days. I also notice the official Three press release makes no mention of the G4, but press releases that went out straight after the embargo do, so it seems that it has been delayed again.

I wonder if Three are copying Virgin Media, they've just rolled back the software in their cable modem as it didn't work properly for the public wi-fi.

This VoLTE launch was indeed just to say they had it first - working or not.

A lot of the time travelling around and even at home the 4G symbol disappears, but I still have the horizontal arrows showing I guess SuperVoice is available and also when I go in to make a call it shows the HD calling option.

Could it be that the phone is only using 3G for data and has SuperVoice ready on 800mhz if I make a call?

Just glanced at my phone in North Belfast and was amazed to see a 4G symbol!

Inital speed test was 11.6 Mb down and 7.7 Mb up (ping 50ms) - happy camper at last!
And a week later the best speed I can get sitting at the same spot is 0.6 Mb down and 4 Mb up!

Whether there are more people using it or they have reduced the power as part of the testing, I don't know. My dBm is -102 on Cell 1 1800Mhz

Give it a go, place a call while you see the arrows and are on 3G and see if it switches up to 4G.

Why would you think the iPhone 6 won't get VoLTE? It's been announced for October.
Yeah I'm sure you're right but you just never know with Three.. I'm sure I'm worrying over nothing.. Roll on October 21st

Because I want to be able to use 4G, when it's less congested here where I live. But as of now it's really slow, and then I rather download on 3G.

I have posted a comment on the blog to see what the response is:

How will unlocked devices on a SIM only plan be enabled? I have an HTC One M8 which is not Three branded, but includes 800 MHz in its radio frequencies.
How will VOLTE be enabled for me?

Tried calling twice with HD calling and it did not switch from 3G.

5 mins later it's sitting back on 4G.

The G4 is now live on the coverage map for 800.

So it is, however no change on mine so I'm just going to wait for Three to officially announce it, or for someone else on the forum to say they've experienced it as well.

My guess would that they would want most data on 4G 1800, most voice on 3G and 800 as a fallback for both.

Have you done a manual search on your software update option?

More work in my area but it's pointless if the 4G (1800mhz) doesn't improve for me.

"We're planning some network improvements in your area on 22 September 2015. We're really sorry if this affects your services. It's crucial work that will improve your network experience."

Yes, however as it was originally unbranded it probably won't take any OTAs though.
It could be an issue to do with the way I've flashed things, but unless Three can confirm it is definitely active for the G4 which they couldn't before, then I'm pretty reluctant to do any further flashing etc.

I also sent them a message right after that page went live asking why ANY device can't utilise the 800 mhz band for data (assuming the phone has the requisite bands of course) even if VOLTE was not available. Oddly enough the question got deleted by the admin! Seems they don't want to answer the tricky questions.

I spoke to them on the phone, they were adamant that Super-Voice and 800MHz will only work on Three branded devices, unless you have an iPhone 6 or the new 6s. Any Android or Windows phones must be running the Three branded software.

I assume this is a limitation of the operating systems and unless Three can get manufacturers to include their VoLTE settings into their own roms (like Samsung/LG/Sony/Motorola unbranded roms), then we won't get VoLTE on sim-only without an iPhone or without flashing the Three branded rom on the relevant device.

In the case of devices the don't have Three branded roms but do technically support 800MHz+VoLTE, officially, these devices will not be supported. Although it is interesting to note the ability of the Nexus 6 to access 800MHz even though it doesn't have the correct VoLTE settings.

The Edge: It's only for Voice..

Also iPhones won't be allowed on 800 until at least October, not just VOLTE from what i'm told.

Anyone know whether reverse srvcc will be used?
One of the things EE/MBNL are trying to iron out before launch.
