Is 21.5 for VoLTE do you think?

The carrier versions go up with an iOS release even with no changes.

Three are getting their extra 5MHz very soon at the end of the month. Anyone got any idea how it'll be deployed?

It should be relatively straightforward to roll out to the other 1800 sites. No great work required as it's clean spectrum and no frequency replanning is required (unlike when EE went from 10 to 20MHz on 1800). It's already running on a few trial sites.

Can they do it remotely or will it require a visit to every mast? But good to hear it won't be that hard.

I hope they can just software update all the 1800 sites to broadcast the extra slice of spectrum and that's that. No messing about.

No, they don't need to go to all the sites and turn them up individually.

Oct 1st is just the date from which their licence allows them to use the part of the spectrum the extra 5MHz is in. If they did it before then they would be no more than a pirate.

The trial sites in Reading are running with the permission of EE (who hold the rights to use that bit of spectrum until the end of the month). EE who were using it for 2G cleared off in August.

It doesn't matter as they haven't got a pound coin for the slot. They blew it all in one night with a bet on 800!

I have noticed a slight increase in the speed tests results from work (centre of Reading): 16.7down/13.6up at 8am this morning, if I remember rightly it used to be more like 9down/5up.

They seemed to have turned off whatever was giving me 2 bars of 4G in my house as I have not been able to get a sniff of 4G for the last few days even outside my house.

Does anyone know what the default position should be on the drop down please. I have changed this so many times (to try and force LTE) that I can't now remember what the default drop down should be!

I've heard this 5mhz will be restricted to users with Nokia 501 handsets only, that have the correct firmware exclusively available from three UK and Ireland stores from 1st October,
Three staff members have been asked to obtain additional competence level guarantees from each three customer request to ensure responsible use of this extra resource, as a result each customer must prove they can achieve level 6 or above on snake with the device before the handsets imei number will be white listed on the network..

Just wanting to know peoples view's on Three's Coverage/Maintenance Checker.

When it tells you maintenance is happening how reliable can it be? As countless times it's said I've had maintenance on the mast in my area. 3rd Sept, 14th Sept and 17th Sept for instance however each time nobody has gone there and mast hasn't gone down and performance of mast remains unchanged. Now today 21st Sept the mast has gone down but the coverage checker says there is no maintenance going on.

Is the Coverage/Maintenance Checker that reliable or does it need to be taken with a pinch of salt most of the time?

I think the Three maintenance checker is complete crap if I'm totally honest.

Perhaps they just employ someone to just randomly put stuff on it and then take it off again awhile later!

I called LG customer service this time about the VoLTE update and according to him, there is no such thing and that Three must be lying to me that you can make phone calls on 4G. He was also quite rude. People in the 3 Store are just as useless. All but one knew nothing about it and I even used their stupid marketing term. The guy that did know thought it was being launched in October and that I must be lying that VoLTE works on S5's. He also claimed that it is impossible to use data while on a 4G call. Obviously I couldn't demonstrate this because it only connect to 800MHz when there is no other signal.

In regard to my LG G4. I have failed to get it to connect to 800MHz. I can only see an option for VoLTE for LG U+ (a carrier in Korea) and it's grayed out. The only way I was able to access it was by using Quick Shortcut Maker. I have seen a post on XDA with a person claiming they have access to it but required root. If you bought your G4 from Three directly then I can do my best to assist you, as I have a rough idea where the relevant settings will be.
If your G4 is unbranded then as of now you cannot access 800MHz or VoLTE until the correct KDZ is released.

I'm in Newtown with work at the moment, and as you say, the mast on the hill (Bryn Lane?) which usually puts out a cracking signal to the town but with terrible throughput, is down. My phone connected to another mast with a much weaker signal, but gave about 6Mb download on the speedtest. Never seen speeds that high before in Newtown!
