I've got a 6310i here and if I can coax it into life, I bet it beats the 6. Probably melt your brain but that is the best reception I ever had. That thing could pick up an Orange signal in the middle of the Sahara, stuck up a camel's backside. So I am told.

It can if you know the secret engineering code and then press # 1000 times. If you press it more than that, you go into hyperspace.

(Off topic but related to this) It was around then (give or take a year or two) that people got half rate and enhanced full rate voice offered on phones, and it was configurable by shortcodes.

I also remember the myths about using said codes to do all sorts of unrelated things (I think a con was that entering the code for half rate turned off billing or something ridiculous). No Snopes back then to bust that myth either, which seemed to have spread everywhere because when I sold phones I had loads of unconnected people telling me this great 'cheat'.

From my experience with the S5, you should be able to flash a Three S6 ROM on an unlocked S6.

With root, you should be able to get the service mode back too?

Haha. Technically correct I suppose. Yet still totally wrong.

My Edge is updating as I type this.

According to the coverage map, I am within the 'strong' signal area.

However, even with the super 4G software, I am still only getting 1 bar when getting the super 4G signal, so not really super 4G. (This is indoors by the way).
After a few seconds, it reverts to normal H+ or just H with 2 bars.

No sign of the super 4G now except for the first 10 seconds or so.


I assume it is all automatic and I don't have to do anything.

Not impressed at all and am still planning to leave 3 unless a miracle happens signal wise soon.

The Three coverage checker lists that I am getting good indoor coverage but I hardly get 1 bar of 4G and it switches to H+ most of the time.

I bought an LG G3 from the O2 store earlier this year before I decided to move to Three, I thought it wouldn't harm to flash Three firmware in case they send an update out in the near future, but it seems like the firmware I found labeled as "Three UK" is just a generic Europe firmware.

Does anyone have any experience with a Three branded LG G3? Should it be branded with the Three logo and have anything that identifies it as from Three or do they actually use a generic firmware on this phone?

I have been with 3 for around 3 years now. The first 2 years the signal was fine at home with no loss of signal unless the transmitter went down.
For the past year or so, just after I renewed the signal has been appalling.
Something has changed. 3 have twice told me that they have identified a fault and on both occasions after many months they report it as fixed, but no change.

Now, I have access to super 4G and guess what? No bloody change. I have a collection of phones in my drawer as I throw nothing away and I have tested them all just in case the Edge has a poor reception because of the way it is made, but all are the same.
Unless things improve pretty damn quick, I am leaving.

If you have 3 firmware, when the phone is booting up you will see the 3 UK logo on the screen.

Speaking of the Galaxy S6, I just got one, upgraded from the LG G3, does anyone know how or if you can lock the S6 into LTE only mode?

I got my S6 update this afternoon and this is what I found.

If you are using data on your phone ie callmapper 800mhz is a priority. It would rather connect to a 4g mast a mile or two away if nothing has 800mhz close. The signal is still strong all that distance away.

Before it would fall back to 3g and sit there until you had finished using data On my little tour round London today it hardly ever fell back to 3G.

For example, I have a 4G mast right next to my flat which is not 800mhz enabled. I use mine to tether my laptop and it now locks onto a mast which is 800mhz enabled about half a mile away instead of the one next door.

In all, 4G coverage has vastly improved.

I am off to a pub tonight where I can only ever get a trace of 3G so I will report back later.

ETA: Looks like the mast next door is undergoing maintenance tomorrow so I guess that will be for 800mhz.
