That's good to know. The coverage in Lincoln has improved recently too in the centre of the city.

Something weird which I've just noticed, and not sure if it's related at all...

I'm currently in work (in Crawley, West Sussex), and have brought in my iPad Mini (wi-fi only model) to watch a bit of Netflix on my break. When I go into the Wi-Fi menu on my iPad, my iPhone 6Plus shows up as a personal hotspot however it shows as having 1 bar of LTE (actually displaying LTE), however on the phone itself I'm only getting 4-5 bars of 3G.

Is this a bug within iOS or with the signal being sent out by the mast?

EDIT: Seems my signal on the phone is all over the place too. Going from No Service to full 3G signal.

Also, just seen confirmation on the Three Blog that ALL iPhone 6, 6S, 6Plus, and 6SPlus's will receive the update, not just those purchased from Three.

Quote:
“Hi, we’ll be rolling out the VoLTE update for the Apple iPhone 6, 6S, 6 Plus and 6S Plus, by the end of 2015. The update will be available for these devices, even if they haven’t been purchased directly from Three.”

I find my iPad is better with signal than my iPhone. But that is to be expected given the larger surface area

See, we bin sayin that all along.
Same as WiFi calling on EE.
Apple decide what does and does not happen on iPhones. No one else, just Apple.

But surely the iPad should just reflect the information that it's receiving from the iPhone?

I am finding that my battery is draining much faster on my S6 Edge with 3 branded firmware since the volte firmware update even if I am not connected to the volte service.

I work 10 hour shifts and I am now finding that my phone is down to around 10% battery level at the end of my shift.
Before the firmware update, I would have 40 to 50% battery charge left.

Apple doesn't let networks dictate which features they can choose to work on their network. One of the best points to own an iOS device.

That's not quite true.

Apple gives networks a massive amount of customisation options on the iPhone.

Networks can do things like disabling personal hotspot or disabling the toggles for 3G/4G. They were the first manufacturer to allow networks to restrict tethering based on the specific subscriber's account.

They just don't allow networks to do things like branding and so on.

I'm pretty sure Verizon still okays the updates in the USA...

BTW, I am now the proud owner of a 3-branded LG G4 so will be testing out 800MHz properly when that arrives at some point next week.

Be interesting to see how that three g4 gets on, my non branded G4 has notably better reception then my galaxy note 3 or note 4,finding and holding on to 4g in much more places. Looking forward to seeing if you still have access to all the field test menus too, or if three can somehow block access to the rat menu or the LTE band select menu.

Going forward though it seems if you intend on being sim free on three your best opting for an iPhone or finding yourself a three branded version of your favorite phone.
For now at least.

No they don't / can't. The updates come direct from Apple. Apple may let them see them during the beta phase, but they can't make modifications. The carrier profile is the only way networks can 'alter' iOS devices.

You may not know but you can take an iPhone 6 purchased in a UK Apple Store, to the US, and fit a Verizon LTE SIM card, and it works on the Verizon 4G network including VoLTE. However it doesn't work on their legacy CDMA network. Also Verizon won't sell a SIM card without a contract.

Samsung phones are okay as you can flash the Three firmware. Sony you might be okay too (if Three ever support those devices).

It seems impossible to find a G4 that is Three branded, except from Three and as we've learnt, flashing the Three firmware doesn't work. That guy on XDA I am starting to think was trolling

Apple supplies Verizon with pre-release versions of all updates.

What they actually allow Verizon to do with that I don't know.

John Gruber (DaringFireball blog) said this last year, they get sight of the update and can register concerns with Apple, but what Apple do with those concerns is up to them.

Its strange how the networks think they're all somehow special, when they all operate to published standards otherwise they wouldn't get their licences from the Governments.

Had it confirmed from Three complaints team today that iOS is now the end of the year for VoLTE. Also they have no date when the InTouch app will be sorted to work with the 6S.. Things are going backwards with them!

I couldn't even get the inTouch app to activate on a 5s last time I tried it. That app is useless.

I think I managed to connect to band 20 on three on my iPhone 6!

My phone had iPhone 9.1 beta installed so don't know if it made any diff..

Here's what field test mode showed.

This was on the train coming out of Birmingham.

Why do we think this could be? 1) iron out the creases or 2) 65% coverage they are excepting to have to shout about it more? or just a delay with Apple?

I've got an S5 G900F (purchased from Argos uk), running the larest BTU version installed via Odin. I've downloaded the latest H3G file but I'm unable to flash it to the S5 as the file appears too big {install fails at the 'hidden' section at the end). Could anyone give me any ideas of how to achieve this or even if it is possible?
