Btw, that presentation seems to confirm some sort of 3G sharing between 3 and O2 should the merger go ahead. Quote:

Shhhhh..... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...hee%20DATA.jpg This shows average data use per month by all three customers. Average per month is now around ~30tb which is over 3.0GB per person per month average. Unlimited data users are using more than 5GB per month on average, the top 10% are using more than 15GB per month on average. |

Looks like terminating legacy contracts with unlimited tethering is having no impact at all on data usage which is sky rocketing
![]() The question would be, how steep would that graph be had unlimited tethering been allowed to continue with 4G launched and mobile data consumption growing in general. |

Hi again everyone, long time no speak
I know this is probably in the wrong thread, but I know I'll get a decent answer from all of you. For any regular posters in the previous Three 4G forum, I asked about an O2 mast in Bristol, with a lot of you commenting about the ex-London bus that was parked up next to it on my photo of it. Haha! I'd just like to ask about that mast again. About 4 months on, it's still the same O2-only 3G mast. The last photo I put on here, it looked as if they had made a space for new cabinets, and there was a line of new Tarmac going from where I guess the new cabinets would sit to the old cabinets. I walked past the mast yesterday (it's my local O2 one). There is a big fenced off area, and now something new, there is what looks like a BT phone manhole looking cover on the pavement (this was never here before), with a fresh line of Tarmac going to where I guess the new cabinet will sit. Does this finally mean they'll be bringing O2/Vodafone 4G to my area soon? I'm not on either network, but it'll be cool to test it out. If I put my postcode into the O2 Service Status site, it says there will be maintenance work on masts in the area on 14th July... Could this be the day they bring a new O2 pole along?? ![]() However, O2/Vodafone seem to be upgrading together. Vodafones coverage checker shows there being no future 4G upgrades in the area for at least the next 3 months... What happens next with the mast? Thanks

They are great for built up areas and may suit some, but out in the sticks it's a different matter with lack of 3G (I stream a lot of Internet radio as I drive around and also go camping so I like Three's blanket 3G).

That powerpoint suggests Three uses femtos. Aren't they already using those?
How will these small cells work? I'm thinking telegraph poles? |

EE have the same 3g network as Three. It's just that Three's holds onto it for dear life where as EE's drops down to 2g. At least that's what I thought.
Speaking of which does anyone know when we are likely to see the MBNL project finish, and all ex-orange sites added to agreement. Cheers |

Thats not quite true, there is still alot of Orange sites that haven't been added to MBNL, so for some reason the phone will hang onto the stronger 2G signal.

EDIT: Damn, you got there before me! : )
As Interactive says It would appear this isn't going to happen with many on here stating legacy Orange sites are now just getting 2G refresh / 4G with no 3G being added. Makes sense for EE. Why add 3G when it will not be required in just a few years and also why advantage Three when they are buying O2? I wouldn't put 3G on them. |

Thanks for sharing! As for small cells, I've only ever noticed one place that's covered (other than Three stores), Xscape in Milton Keynes. Pretty much full signal DC-HSDPA in the whole place, and EE had nothing or sometimes 1 bar of edge. The local MBNL site was 4G'd so as soon as you stepped out of the building there was 4G on both networks, but it was clear that there's some extensive coverage with small cells for Three in there as it's quite a big building and no matter where I was I had fantastic signal. Interesting that they don't appear to mention 800MHz? |

I set my EE phone to WCDMA/LTE only, so no chance of dropping back to 2G.

I'm getting a full signal of 4G on three in Portishead now where once it was just 3G and the odd 1 bar of 4G!
Got a 30mbps speed too! |

So I presume your calls will just fail then if you happen upon a 2G/4G area of coverage.

It has been mentioned in other forums that a number of these ex-Orange sites have been upgraded to EE 2G/4G only with no 3G so no MBNL, therefore keeping Three off the site. They seem to have sorted CCFB from 4G to 2G which will see them over until VoLTE arrives on the 4G layer.

Cheers I believe Vodafone and O2 were something like 65% of the time, EE was quite higher with 85% of the time and Three around 96% of the time (can't remember the exact figures, but it was around that (I guess Three would have mainly been on 3G though with hardly any 4G)? |

It's in a good number of places now. Just need to get the North side covered now and a bit more in the center.

How so? When the whole idea of MBNL is a full ran share? And part of that was to add three to all the ex orange sites, sure that breaks the agreement they have both signed, when Olaf quite loudly said he wants the and thinks the MBNL agreement will and should continue??
