Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 and its competitors

I'm looking to buy an Android tablet for my (young) kids, and this Samsung seemed to be pretty reasonable for what I want to pay. Principal use is stored videos, youtube and kiddy games, so nothing too taxing (but Mum & Dad will no doubt nick it every now and again for a spot of surfing). They have been brought up on an original iPad which now is just too long in the tooth, and now I want to try out Android.

I have never had an Android tablet and I am a bit clueless about what is on offer - it took me long enough to figure out the Samsung line-up.

Any comments? Alternatives? Then I will just need to hunt down a decent case to protect from the inevitable drops...

How about something less expensive and a bit more kid-proof like the Tesco Hudl?

The Galaxy Tab 4 is a nice tablet though.

I suppose one key piece of information is what's your budget for the tablet?

For young kids I think I'd also go for a Hudl - just make sure you get the latest version (Hudl2).

Given the difference in price with the Galaxy Tab, you might also want to consider getting two Hudls (saves on arguments).

I hadn't considered the Hudl, so thanks for the tip. As I am out of the UK that is an added complexity but not insurmountable. I´m happy to pay up to about £170, but also happy not to!

The Hudl 2 only has an 8.3 inch screen but has actually got a higher screen resolution than the Tab 4 10.1 inch.

I've read mixed reviews of the Tab 4. It doesn't appear to be awful, but it is nowhere near as good as the Tab S (well out of your budget)

The tab pro 10.1 is a good buy. It's £199 but it's a premium tablet. It has a good display and performs smoothly.
