Yes - it shows once again that many animals are capable of great empathy.

This is not nice in any way - but rather than start a new thread I will stick it in here.

Do you think you're having a bad day?

Not when compared to this poor Impala (RIP)!

A herd of elephants trying to rescue a calf. Watch how one elephant puts its leg out from behind for the calf to try and grab hold of.

Wonderful video, thanks so much. I wanted to get into the water and push the calf back onto the ground myself

Yes, it was a bit tense to watch wasn't it.
When they all left , I wondered if the mother had told them to go for a while to see if the little calf would settle down and concentrate . It looked like they were only hiding in the bushes rather than just wandering off not bothered as it first appeared .

Yes it's a good job the video had a nice title so you could guess it had a happy ending.

Very interesting behaviour indeed - I agree.

Some good news for a change - Kakapos have an endearing innocence about them that is simply irresistible.

Sadly, however, it seems that not only has the kakapo forgotten how to fly, but it has forgotten that it has forgotten how to fly. Since 1989 when Douglas (RIP) wrote those words things have improved for the Kakapo but when I see stories like this it reminds me of all the animals we have recently lost including so many wonderful birds - the Dodo, the Moas, the super-eagle Harpagornis, Elephant birds and (from far further back) the Teratorns or even the Giant Cuban ground owl Ornimegalonyx.
