The public were being groomed to vote for him and for him to win the final. Look at how he went on after his sister, who sang dreadfully, which made him sound spectacular. Then the golden buzzer from Simon and all the publicity.
Sadly for the producers and Simon, who obviously had some grand plan for him, it fell apart when he proved he couldn't handle pressure, couldn't remember words and most importantly of all, couldn't sing that well
Agreed. I think Simon realised he'd lost after Callum's performance, especially seeing as he then told the choir they could win.

Not sure, but there must be 100s of amazing & confident musicians out there who can perform well, but in a reality show I think less confident acts like Calum works better to keep viewers interest high.
