I completely agree that the note switch was neat. The dramatic effect of the boxes is completely negated when HE takes the bag and puts HIS hand in it for THREE seconds. You keep emphasising that three seconds is not a long time (and it isn't) but we're used to seeing accomplished magicians seemingly do impossible things right under our noses in the blink of an eye.

I dont really care what you think,I can match you in magic experience years but Im not a magic circle member nor do I care. He did a bill switch with a TT put his hand in the bag retrieved bill loaded note into lemon via gimmick-unlikely he shoved it manually. A star trap I believe its called. I cant be sure of precise method (there are a few) but my opinion is Scott Alexander's version. Either Final answer of final Cut.

Yes the note switch was great. I am thinking elasticated invisible thread from a sleeve with a trigger somewhere on his person. It appeared like a blink and could not have been secreted from another TT. It was too good to be anything else. He pulled that off like a pro. Rest was amateurish.

Edit. It was TT hidden note. The switch took place exactly when he says ' someones life this evening'. He pulls out the new note and holds the folded signed note behind the now unfolding new note. Really slick. Then he pushes the signed note into the TT later on....had enough opportunity to do it.

True. It's all about how it appears to the audience, not what the method it or what is really happening.

He showed his hands empty to the audience and so going into the bag was OK and nothing to write home about.

Copperfield shows all around his box and then inside to show to the audience that it is empty, just before he appears in it sitting on a motorcycle. How he does that or whether the box is empty or in fact contains an entire basketball team is irrelevant.

The showing of a hand or box as empty is a proof that nothing out of order is going on. Of course as it's a magic show, all sorts of out of order things are highly likely to actually be going on, but normal well adjusted people expect that to be the case in a magic show.

In magic, something is shown empty so that the audience then make up their own minds that it is empty and then something appears that was not there before. That is what it's about. - Zero point me wheeling out a box, saying to the audience "It's an empty box" without showing it to be so and then opening it to reveal the Basketball team. They are not going to take my word of it that it was empty in the first place. That is why something is shown empty and then the audience is satisfied.

It's not just opinion You yourself have stated that you would go around calling out magicians during their magic act if they were doing a trick how you wanted them to.

I have told you that 1000s of tricks end that way: sometimes for an obvious reason, sometimes not. Yet you seem to have a vendetta just against this magician and that just he shouldn't have ended the trick the way 1000s of magic tricks end. And if you had been their you would have called him out on it thereby ruining his act.

So those are all your own actions and yet now you post that personal attacks are not on.

It was a terrible trick, badly executed.

In the semi finals he looked like he had mixed up a mind reading trick with the actual trick. He mad at least half a dozen errors.

It was botched, and his final botch was clear to everyone - it even made the mational newspapers.

Even people who are not part of this circle are allowed an opinion. This is DS, we are here to talk about things we have seen on tv. Im sure the magician is a nice person, but on these occasions he just wasnt very good. Its that simple.

I dont need a degree in magic to see that.

We are also allowed to reveal how tricks are done, or at least how we think thay are done. Its all part of the forum.

I guessed, based on what i saw. I said he palmed it due to him holding his thumb in a classic palm position, and you said he had nothing in his hand.

I guess you could say he had a fake thimb tip in his hand, but you would argue thats an empty hand.

Either way, that part of the trick was fine. Until of course he handled the bag, negating it being in two seperate boxes and then showing the hole to the cameras.

Still miles better than his semi final though, which was awful.

Read a dictionary for definition of hold, you'll see it is pretty loose, since we can hold doors open, hold people in detention etc but they r not in our hands...i hold the door open with my foot sometimes...whoops guess i am not holding it...lol dumb.

Thank you for your reply to my earlier message - first I had heard of thumb tip magic was in this thread and did a search to find a very interesting video demo which included scarves and stuff - the stage craft involved in doing this stuff so well concealed is very impressive and it answered a few questions about magic routines throughout the years.

I have now worked out how the TT (is that the technical term) was used in the Raven routine and I must say I'm not sure it could have been performed any smoother - it was the real highlight of all his performances on BGT for me.

It's very interesting stuff.
