Thank you DSforum support.

I asked a while ago if anyone remembered a variation of the trick, where a fruit was in a fruit which was in a fruit etc.

Does anyone know the name of the magician who performed it?

thanks

I have now worked out how the TT (is that the technical term) was used in the Raven routine and I must say I'm not sure it could have been performed any smoother - it was the real highlight of all his performances on BGT for me.

It's very interesting stuff.”

Yes TT is very much the technical term along with many others magician use to mildly disguise what they are talking about.

A DL is used a lot in card magic.

Here are many famous magicians (famous to me anyway) doing their versions of 'Bill in a lemon':

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KP0JxX7LRQQ

And oh look! There is the famous Doc Eason (almost 40 years of performing and a peer amongst magicians) taking the bag back from the audience member and sticking his hand in after showing it empty.

It's a magician that perhaps no one has heard of just doing a bit of magic, it's not the final of a huge talent show.

Raven made a point of the bag being inaccessible in two boxes, the magician you talk of just got it from his coat.

Two different scenarios.

Doc Eason:

For 27 years, he was the featured entertainer at John Denver's World Famous Tower Comedy/ Magic Bar in Snowmass Village, CO. (1977–2004).

In 2004 he was the recipient of the first ever W. C. Fields Magic Bartender of the Year by the prestigious Magic Castle in Hollywood, where he regularly performs.[3]

In 2008, he was awarded Closeup Magician of the Year from the Magic Castle in Hollywood. In 2009 he was awarded Closeup Magician of the Year and Lecturer of the Year.[4]

In 2012, he was selected Best Closeup Magician in a reader's poll on magic.about.com.

Bloody amateurs massing around with their kiddie tricks. What does he know?!
Having the woman holding the bag for safe keeping but then takes it back and sticks his hand in whilst using a TT of all things - I'm disgusted!

Right! I'm off to the WORLD FAMOUS Hollywood Magic Castle and calling him out on it. He should be arrested!

I can't see what there is to argue about!

To me a magician has one job, and that is to make the impossible seem possible. It doesn't matter if they are performing a trick that costs £20, or a big illusion that runs into thousands of pounds. Nor does it matter if variations of the trick has been done before.

Nobody is seriously suggesting that Jamie Raven should have been able to get the note into the lemon without touching the box, or the inner box, or the bag or even the lemon.

The fact is that when you watched the trick, you could see him fumbling with whatever was in the bag so the trick wasn't flawless. For that, you can make your own conclusions as to how the note got into the lemon.

I don't think thats enough to critise him, as performing on BGT is probably a big deal so he was bound to be nervous. But did he deserve to win on the basis of the trick he performed? Probably not.

I don't even know what the big fuss is all about, it's not like he won.

Oh god, can you imagine the uproar on here if he'd won????

BIB - as Raven put it himself, technically, he was was indeed THE best human on the show, as the winner was a dog.

No dog has ever won or will win a talent show.

All a dog would do is eat its own vomit, or worse.

The talent was Jules, who trained a dog to stop eating its vomit and perform as it did.

Raven could only win the most talented person called Raven on the show.

Exactly!
Now I have my suspicions about Jamie based on info Ive seen amongst magicians,BGT had a magic advisor called Russ Stevens who coached Jamie (badly IMO) whether he was sourced to get a magician on the show I dunno.
I thought the whole routine in the final was good,it referenced his first audition with drawing on the card in his pocket and BGT bank note.. Apology to Alesha nice way to introduce nest of boxes, and bill switch to instructions on paper nice way to lead into lemon.
There are better versions of bill to lemon and his was only spoilt by bad camera angles but unless its your own show you cant control that, a wrist move would have prevented hole being seen but pressure of live TV makes you forget things that would normally be second nature.

Lets be honest how much of the votes were for his act and how many for his looks?

Russ now runs his own magic video production dealership and so nowadays mostly makes, producers and sells other UK magicians "How to" videos. So I would imagine his advice was mostly on how to perform on and with cameras. That would be OK if he himself was filming it but with zero control over which camera the BGT producers would switch to next, the advice would be limited. He is one of those 'Used to be a magician but now sells things to magicians instead'.

Ultimately though, as apology gifts go, an old lemon and your own autograph aren't that impressive, are they

Now that guy is impressive.
