No, I'm too tired to be bothered with Digital Spy's obsession with every dog act being 'animal cruelty'.
I read that article and whilst it is disgusting what that person was doing, it wasn't about Jules & Matisse. There's nothing to suggest Jules does any of that to her dogs. |

I was out in the kitchen washing the dishes when the stupid dog act was on, so at least I was spared having to be bored by it.

http://stopanimalabuse.blogspot.co.u...forced-to.html abuse , the act was not clever but bullying a dog in every sense of the word.. how the hell could anyone have voted for this
Out of interest, do you call guide dogs cruel? Or gundogs, police dogs, search and rescue dogs, sheepdogs and sled dogs? After all their trained to do tasks for us and we train them the ability to do these tasks, is it cruel to give them work to do rather than letting them sit on the sofa getting overweight through lack of exercise and bored stupid as they have nothing to do? |

Firstly, that isn't Britain, who have a hell of a lot better animal care and regulations than other countries. Secondly, there is a world of difference in abusing a dog and animal cruelty which is what this link is, and the positive rewarding training of a dog who adores his owner and loves to learn and show off. There is no way that you would get a dog to do what Matisse does using the methods in that link, and any dog trainer worth their salt know it. Kindness, positive reinforcement reward based training such as clicker training gives the best results, there is absolutly no force or negativity in it. The dog does things because it wants to not because it has to.

Border collies are naturally intelligent, they actually love training. I work in rescue and trust me this is not animal abuse. Dogs love to be stimulated and love it when their owners do this kind of thing with them. My dogs get excited when the fella ' tries ' to teach tricks. You can clearly see dogs and owner are besotted wuth each other.

No.
The 3 legged dog sympathy trick worked though. I'd have preferred the choir or magician to win. |

That dog did not win by accident. She trained it and trained it, I think with a big money prize in mind when she realised how much of a sucker Simon Cowell is for a dog act, not to mention the great British public. How is Matisse going to spend his cash and might he get himself a new manager now he's hit the big time?

Satisfied would be the word.
I didn't feel that the act didn't deserve it, and it was a better winner than most from other series. So I voted 'Yes'. |

Even if there is no physical brutality involved, people nowadays are uncomfortable about animals being taught to perform tricks for people's amusement. You have to respect people for their feelings about that if that's how they feel. It doesn't mean people are 'obsessed'. |

Why do you think circuses with animals are old fashioned now and circuses now are more likely to be arty acrobats and the like?

Well, clearly they're not because a dog act just won one of the nation's biggest shows.Quote:

The thing is, people are obsessed with it. These forum members criticise every single thing in any dog act on BGT as 'cruel' towards the dog. If it simply panted, it would probably be criticised as being cruel. It's monotonous and boring.

I really didn't think the choices tonight were great anyway. The fact a tight rope-walking dog and a clumsy, amatuerish magician made the final two highlights the lack of quality this year.
I suppose between the final two, the Matisse act had some charm, even though I'm not really a fan of these acts with animals. Raven was just dull and insipid. |

No for two major points:
1. The dog was exploited by making it walk the tightrope walk and that's not natural for a dog to do. 2. We were exploited by bringing in a disabled dog for no other reason than extract sympathy and vote from us. If any other act had just added a human disabled person to their act just to get more votes, there would be a public outcry, but as it was a dog, they can get away with it. |

She lives in Belgium but she's from Blackpool, so no it's not a foreign act!
Skippy wasn't bought in for sympathy, it was part of the act, Matisse was stealing the sausages for his little three legged disadvantaged friend. |

I love dogs but i think there shouldnt be a place for animals in BGT. So a no from me.
Magician very skilled at what he does but no idea how he even made the final let alone top3 Can't decide about choir being BGT discoveries, they're obviously blimmin brilliant but they're professional and have been doing big concerts in wales for years i believe. For example would St Pauls Cathedral Choir be allowed on BGT? But i would have been happy for them to have won. Old Men Grooving 4th whilst Entity Allstars 11th ![]() So any winner from a Top4 of UDI, Entity Allstars, Isaac Waddington and the Welsh Choir would have done me nicely |

UDI were by far and away the best on the night, but Jules and Matisse did a good enough performance. It may be another Ashley & Pudsey but there were a few extras with tricks and the stories being told, and certainly much more deserving winners than Callum Scott or that dull Choir.
