Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere but ...
Can someone please explain to me why it is OK for a dog to walk a high wire but the RSPCA had to be involved with Marc Metral and Wendy ?? |

Because people believed Wendy had a fake mouth attached to it that wasn't allowing her to breath. Whereas there was no doubt Chase could breathe.
![]() Didn't look like Wendy was having any problems to me. Surely Chase was more likely to be distressed or hurt on a high wire ? Thanks for the reply though. |

She brought both dogs out after the semi, but never did at the final, so I wonder why, my guess is she would have not got the votes as everyone was voting for Matissee as a one act show.

...Or because it would have ruined the narrative, perhaps?

Seeing the poor thing tumble over the ropes was as bad as thoese poor elephants that are forced to draw pictures with the trunks.

They might have lost votes but I'm not cynical enough to believe that's why Jules didn't show Chase at the end.

Then why, as she brought the dog out after the semi, or she if had problems bringing the dog out, then she might have mentioned it.. Sorry I really believe she knew it helped her chances as everyone had fallen in love with Matissee.

It is not normal for an animal to be forced to go on a sound stage for a tv programme with hundreds and hundreds of people watching. It is stressful for the animal and it should not be allowed.

She has now admitted the dog was scared of this rope trick, so used the double, I wonder how many times she tried to get the poor thing to try this before giving up and using e other one.

The same reason the magician didn't show you the hole in the lemon or how he did the trick, it would have ruined the act.
It's not comparable. I don't think 'the narrative' would have been damaged if the other dog's contribution had been acknowledged afterwards. She had an opportunity to do this when Ant and Dec asked at the end about Matisse's tightrope training but didn't. Why? There is always a possibility that Cowell had a hand in this. Ironically, if she had brought out the other dog afterwards to take a bow and explained, I think we would have had a lot of 'awws' and I doubt it would have affected the voting. |

But trickery and illusion is the magician's act.

we all see things with different eyes... to me dogs werent meant to do these things... its nice to have a smart dog...and one who behaves well but not to do tricks , some dangerous as this dog did.... but thats just me..
I really hope you never ever get close to crufts as I would be scared for your health if you happened upon heel work to music, agility or flyball you may just combust on the spot! ETA I see other post going on about chase looking distressed on the ropes it's not like jules would have thought to herself Friday you know what I'll make my dog walk on ropes for the final. Chase would have been doing this for months she wouldn't have included it in her act if she wasn't confident that chase was happy and confident to do so. You can't just make a dog do what you want it to it takes a lot of time and patience and collies being especially intelligent dogs that can become bored and depressed without the right mental stimulation thrive on heel work to music and agility

I believe that Crufts and the Kennel Club have rules about which tricks the dogs are allowed to perform, and I think that some Jules and Matisse's tricks are against those rules.

Whilst it's true Chase was more likely to be hurt, it clearly enjoyed what it was doing and was no different to a person walking a tightrope IMO.

That was pointed out on another forum that some moves are banned.
My point re crufts was actually directed at another poster who seems to think all dog acts are cruel |

The narrative really would have been damaged because it would draw too much attention to the fact Matisse didn't walk the tightrope.

Providing the revelation was made after the event, it wouldn't have impacted on our enjoyment of the narrative.

Wouldn't it hurt the dog's paws?
I'm not saying that it would, but I'm genuinely asking anyone who would know. Because the way dogs paws are you would think that the wires would dig in to the gaps of the paw. |
