The Samsung Galaxy S6 has no expandable memory slot to insert a memory card

which previous models did have.

Has this put you off buying it? or you still bought it but used other ways to save the photos/videos (in addition to the internal memory?)

Share your views.

and also, what cloud options are there to save your photos/videos on the s6 (as you cannot insert an SD card) (eg, one drive/ google drive) ???

Yes it put me off so im looking at other phones. The Galaxy S6 Active will have a SD card slot and may even have a removable battery? Plus its water resistant which the S5 was but S6 isnt.

Other phones im considering are the LG G4, Galaxy Note 4 maybe the Note 5 (depending on what they do with it).

The S6 has sold much the same as its predecessor the S5. Samsung won't be happy about that!

Not 70% more you were claiming!!??

This has not put me off, and doesn't put me iff in anyway. These days all my music is streamed off Google Music, my photos sent straight to Google Photos/Dropbox, and my work documents on Google Drive.

I have unlimited mobile data, though to be fair I only use around 20gb a month these days as there is WiFi absolutely everywhere!

I've had Samsung phones for the last couple of years and now likely to get the LG G4 next. I don't think Samsung will have great success trying to match Apple on price and design. I think the reason why Samsung had success in the past was because they offered good phones that were cheaper than apple. The price of the S6 on contract or sim free is very close to the iPhone and I think the average person would pick iPhone over galaxy.

very interesting thanks, forbes seems credible so I accept the article.

So whats all this great sales stuff then?

The 70% I got from a poster on another forum, as I speculated the good sales were due to higher people on the 2,4,6 cycle and this poster who said he has figures from the industry said they were 70% higher.

I've now got the S4 Mini, this phone seems to be the last to offer an FM radio with RDS and even Radiotext (although reception seems weaker than earlier Samsung models). A waterproof model would be most useful may try and get that next time I get to upgrade.

These S5's and S6's seem to have quad core processors, how come Apple are able to charge up to £700 for a dual core processor and more memory, removing the Micro SD slot will make it more difficult to get it to have as much memory as the IPhone 6+

Nope. Had my S6Edge (64gb) since the day it came out and I am very happy with it. No problems at all. I had the s2 and s4 before this. It would be nice to remove the battery/have a SD card but you have to move with the times.

The last phone I had with expandable storage was the Samsung Galaxy S2, I used it a bit then but once I moved to phones with larger storage sizes (32gb N5 and 64gb 6+) I felt it wasn't as necessary. Then again I am still on unlimited data and still stream a lot of stuff, if I weren't and I had to start storing music and videos on the phone I could see its usefulness.

I think it's personally a matter of usage cases, it was always a power user feature to be honest, does the average person buying it care more about the camera and what it looks like over the SD card slot and removable battery? Probably. That's why Samsung did it, to remove the "geeky" image, hopefully they'll keep them for the Note 4, I think that would be a wise decision.

Industry analysts have again forecasted high sales for the S6 but ultimately it'll just track ahead of the S5 by a small margin. It's still on track to sell 10's of millions but the S6 sales haven't grown much compared to the S5 and are lower compared to the S4.

To be honest I couldn't afford it anyway, but yes it would put be off.

I also don't like the lack of a replaceable battery. ..

While this is only the opinion of an Investment Bank Analyst its pretty savage on its opinion of where Samsung is heading with the S6 and thinks their business model is imploding. Make of it what you will.

I've still got about a year left to run on my S5 contract. I won't consider the S6 because of the no SD card slot. The S5 is a great phone, so it's a shame.

It annoys me tbh. How difficult would it have been for Samsung to include expandable memory in the S6? Just seems they've taken away a feature for no good reason.

the s5 901f really is a kickass phone. I can see myself staying with it for well over 2 years.

The game changer that might force me to change is either a future killer feature new android which isnt available for my phone, or phone failure. I think actual new hardware changes they running out of ideas and nothing new is unlikely to budge me.

From what I have read, although there was an initial rush, S6 sales since have been disappointing. Prices on contract have already come down nearer the 30 a month mark

The only thing that is putting me off is that the Emerald Green colour option for the S6 Edge is not available yet.

what really puts me off is the price they charge for the higher capacity ones like the 128gb one.

At the moment I have a 16gb Galaxy S5 with a 64gb memory card and that's nearly full so I would probably be looking at the 128gb version of the S6 which is silly money.

In future if the S7 is the same next year when I'm due to upgrade with no option of an SD card and the 128gb one still being silly money I will be either looking at an LG phone or even one of the Indian phones as I hate being mugged off (even though I recommended the S2 for my wife and she got it, then got a S3 myself followed by my S5).

iPhone customers have not got any other option if they want to use iOS, but with Android there are loads of alternatives to go to.

It may suit some people streaming everything, but I like everything locally (as it should be with the cheap prices of memory nowadays).

Yes. I don't know about contract but on giff gaff the sim free phone is a whopping two hundred quid dearer if you choose the 128 gb option.

I'd love to know how they justify this. .....

I don't think Samsung ever positioned the S series as a cheaper alternative to the iPhone. Though, of course, they do drop in price after launch. A big critisism of the S series (particulary the horrible S5) was the fact that they were cheap feeling but sold at top prices.

The average person would pick the iPhone over a Galaxy? Who know? In the developed markets Apple sell plenty of phones and I would guess the majority of those who want one get one. I don't think there are many who got the S5 because it was a bargain over the iPhone 5S.

Today's paper had the 32GB S6 for £31 on Virgin iirc (I was reading the paper in someone else's office so can't refer back to it).

Edit

Just checked their web site

S6 32GB is £31 pm
S6 64GB is £37 pm
S6 64GB EDGE is £42 pm

All are FOC for the handset.
