Serious question...Is Hollyoaks written by 5 year olds?

I have been a loyal Hollyoaks viewer since the very beginning and on many occasions over the past few years I have battled through awful storylines in the hope things may improve. I think I may have to just call it a day and give up though. I have to come to terms that Hollyoaks has slowly been murdered.

It's lost the soul of what it used to be.
It's now just an over the top mess. Every episode seems to end with someone injured just so that they can utilize their new hospital set.

Bryan Kirkwood has destroyed one of my favorite shows.

The hospital set needs destroying!!!!

Hollyoaks is a soap not a bloody medical drama, Kirky needs to bugger off soon as he really is ruining the show.

I do enjoy the "who will end up in hospital today?" game.

It's sadly become contrived nonsense.

The one consultant covers all hospital is ridiculous! Dr S'avage treats everyone including mental health patients in the mental health wing and medical emergencies in A & E. He's not even qualified but treats everyone whatever's wrong with them. The same nurses are treating everyone in what seems to be the one ward hospital. Not only that but the Gloved Hand Killer somehow manages to sneak around killing people in this tiny one ward hospital without being caught! The sooner it gets blown up the better!

So your only point is people get hurt and go to the hospital. This to you suggests the show is written by 5 year olds?

LOL. I am loving these Hollyoaks bashing threads. Nobody has anything to say beyond regurgitating the same tired cliched criticisms.

I don't think it's written by 5 year olds, but I do think it's mainly written for 12-13 year olds now, and not ones who are specially demanding about what they see.

I stopped watching a couple of years ago for similar reasons. But I just saw on the main soap pages that apparently the latest twist in Cindy's oh-so-sensitive mental illness storyline is that she's going to sexually pester a teenager, for comic effect. Because apparently mental illness is hilarious and sexy, and mentally ill women are tragic old slappers who can't wait to get their baps out. It actually makes me a bit sick that this stuff is going out, to be honest. But maybe that's the point. The only way Kirkwood has got to get people talking about the show is to make it really nasty and tacky. So I guess he's got what he wants.

I watch Hollyoaks and mostly enjoy it but the hospital is a joke.

Pretty sure its written like how Family Guy is written in South Park

They pick a ball with a name on it and then a situation and then another ball with another name on it

e.g. Tony name is picked with the situation has sex with and then Dr Savage name is pulled and then Tony suddenly is gay and has a affair with Dr Savage

I believe it's written by the finest shit-throwing monkeys that £69 can buy.

Remember years ago when Myra and Archie slept together, that was definitely one of the best 'plucking names out of a hat' hook ups ever

LOL I disagree, Nieghbours is written by 5 year olds. Hollyoaks is written by a bunch of homicidal crack and meth addicts

I agree the hospital set is a joke and nothing has any depth anymore.

Even ratings are down so viewers are tiring of the superficial 'drama', sensationalism and nonsensical twists that are rarely followed up on.

Was there any need for such an inflammatory comment? grow the hell up.

No, that wasn't my ONLY point that was one example that I used. There are plenty of problems with Hollyoaks and there have been for years now in my opinion. Also, its not just that "people get hurt and go to hospital" its that every episode ends in someone getting injured in some ridiculous over the top way and ends up in the joke hospital run by morons. My comment about the show been written by 5 year olds was a joke based on how unbelievable the storylines are and how silly the whole show feels now. Maybe that was too kind though as 5 year olds could probably pull better storylines out the bag.

LOL I am loving these users who belittle comments because they can't discuss a difference of opinions on a subject. Just because it seems to be a popular opinion that Hollyoaks has gone down hill over the last few years, it doesn't make it a cliche. It makes it a real issue amongst the fans that needs to be addressed but as that is unlikely to happen we are allowed to have a little moan about it.

Holbyoaks. Also if Teegan is a student she would have finished her placement in that department by now and be either back at uni or rotated somewhere else!!

It is a parody of a soap, and give it a couple of years if Birkwood is still in charge, expect Channel 4 to axe it.

It has its moments still but lacks the consistency IMO - Maxine near suicidal story was good I thought, as was Sinaed giving birth. However, not as good as it used to be clearly

It reminds me of Big Brother, it's the soap version. OTT drama and twists prioritised over character (rather than housemate) progression and development. I actually like that some of the time because at least things actually happen (unlike Corrie for example which drags on a lot with nothing much happening for months on end), but ALL the time it really gets a bit much and it's certainly too much when virtually every character has been on the verge of death, had an afair and/or has a dark secret.
