Apparently Ian mckellan said he over acted in the first series as he's not use to sitcoms so this series he's under played it abit
I didn't think the first series was funny but even worse wasn't watchable. Having seen clips for this series it seemed ok so thought I may give it another try. Especially now as you say IM has toned it down; DJ could do with doing so too imo. I'll watch on catchup

Loved it!

For me, the two shining stars are Frances De La Tour and Marcia Warren!

Just as bad as the first season.

Shame - such talent wasted on such poor material

If only Ian McKellen could throw in a couple of his Gandalf lines.....

Yes he was introduced in s1e1 as a new neighbour who didn't know anyone or anything
I do find it a bit odd how Ash manages to afford to rent a flat in what seems to be a pretty exclusive area of London. Maybe he finds ways to supplement his income by hanging around older gay men

I realise he is intended to be the gormless eye candy but even so.

This is the episode I saw being recorded. Celia Imrie, Frances de la Tour and McKellen and Jacobi... such talent wasted on such a lame script, unfortunately.
Although I like it I do think there is a lack of really great quips and punchlines delivered in the style of that other great sitcom that Frances de la Tour was in, Rising Damp. But then how can you compare with that, so maybe I'm being a bit unfair.

I hope it picks up a bit.
It didn't seem very Vicious to me.

I though this first episode was excellent.

Some of it was naff, but it had so many laugh out loud moments that easily made up for it.

Well, I enjoyed it. Sometimes you need comedy to be realistic for it to work, other times just way over the top.

I think Celia Imrie had problems not laughing at times; such a pity she's not in more episodes.

I totally loved it and laughed my socks off - what a sublime cast they have.

I still think Ash is the weak link though. I understand the reason for the character's existence, I just think sadly the actor doesn't measure up, which tbf would be almost impossible, given the people he's surrounded by.

I know humour is subjective, but i find the show hilarious.
Violet is wonderful, as is Penelope, the sniping between Freddie and Stuart, i just find the whole show very funny.

We were really looking forward and weren't at all let down.

Such a brilliant show!

I think we can all agree that it's not actually very good, is it? But that doesn't stop it having some laugh out loud moments.

It really does inhabut the same world as Gimme Gimme Gimme, which is no bad thing, in my book. Great to see some mature actors in primetime.

Just curious to know how you know she's not in more episodes.

That about sums it up for me

Although I liked Ian M's over the top acting - shame he says he's toned it down!

Saw him interviewed when he recounted visiting a school where pupils gathered outside to see him
He addressed them from an upstairs window urging them to revise for their exams or in Gandalf voice "YOU SHALL NOT PASS"

I don't, to be honest. I just based that on an earlier post :

They've definitely toned it down. It feels far more believable in terms of characterisation if not in script. Still love it but I think it's a shame they didn't keep hold of Celia Imrie for more than one episode; I think she's a great actress.

It was just as bad as its first series.
Ratings were more or less level with Finale of last series.
Finale got 2.77 million, this episode got 2.99 million, so not much difference.
However the last series Finale had almost halved its viewership from its opening episode, so both ratings are well down on the premier ratings.

Im sure USA will lap it up though because its more their kind of comedy.

I'm not sure. The Americans are far more conservative than we are. And I don't see the congregation of the Westboro Baptist Church lapping it up either
