First time poster be gentle

During the big Michael reveal. Personally I found parts brilliant but not sure they were meant to be. Highlights included.

Bethany during the whole scene

Michael something along the lines of- ' 4 Weeks ago we even celebrated your birthday. What sort of sick person does that- You even blew out the candles.

Michael holding the photo album like something out of this is your life

and my personal favourite

I stole a digital camera a mp3 player and 3 ornamental spoons hardly comparable is it.

Brilliantly funny lines but the question is was they meant to be?

I imagine it was discussed in the storyline meeting as this epic dramatic episode, intricately weaving Maddie's cruel death and Sophie's grief with the explosive reveal in the Platt house. Only Bethany's sharp quips could break the rising tension as crushing blow after blow washed over Des and his family fell apart around him. Viewers would be on the edge of their seats as the deep character introspective of Andy's inner psyche slowly unravelled. Gail would become almost hysterical as she tries to hold the very fibres of the family together.

Somehow it just didn't quite turn out that way

Pretty sure it was meant to be serious but bits of it really were a bit silly. The line about what Michael stole in particular.

Gail was really funny - her face when NotGavin and Les were talking was hilarious.

I couldn't stop laughing when she said Did you have an accident?

(An accident that completely changed Gavin's appearance)

I honestly can't make up my mind if it was intentionally funny or meant to be high drama.

Yeah that's what I couldn't work out- Agreed about the did you have an accident line. If it was meant to be serious it failed completely and if it was meant to be funny why have the whole serious build up.

I personally thought the level of comedy timing and one liners was Corrie at its best. Probably not meant to be funny at all but that's how it turned out

Great post. The reveal was ridiculously panto and I found Maddie's death completely bereft of any emotion. The OP makes some great points also, I did genuinely say to my BF 'look at Les stomping about with that book like it's this is your life!'

Tonight was one of the best episodes in ages. It was funny enough watching Sophie trying to act grief stricken and then casually offering to donate her beloved Maddie's organs as if she was talking about popping down to the shop for some milk.

But the scene with the Platts was the stuff of genius, mainly because of Gail. I was howling with laughter when she suggested NotGavin had had an accident, then showed the photo of David to demonstrate how much people can change only for Les Dennis to point out that he had not changed at all! The comedy angry acting from Les Dennis was also hilarious. All it needed tonight was the Nazirs' chickens and it would have secured the BAFTA for next year.

The whole NotGavin storyline has been a farce and not in a good way. This had nothing on the Lewis Archer reveal.

It was like Gail was throwing a lifeline to Andy, but did she really expect him to say - 'Oh yeah, I did, and I had to have really extensive plastic surgery...', and Les just to accept it

Sophie spent most of the episode acting like Maddie had fallen over and skint her knee. Wtf?

I found it hilarious. Some highlights:

Andy: "I was very low as a teenager, it affected my skin and my hair"

and

Gail: "Did you have an accident?"

That photo of David was also hilarious - "He looks nothing like he does now"

I'd forgotten about that.

I thought it was the best episode for ages too

Something scared me tonight. As much as I detest them, I actually commended the Nazirs on a pretty realistic portrayal of controlled grief. That said, set against Sophie's attempt, anything else would have been oscar winning. I swear to God, if I hadn't seen the gas blast kill Maddie I'd have been sure Sophie murdered her with her own bare hands, she seemed genuinely glad to be rid of her!!

I couldn't stop laughing. I don't know how the actors who played Gavin/Andy, Gail and Michael keep a straight face. It was hilarious.

I missed the beginning of the second episode so didn't see but the first episode was written by Simon Crowther and usually judging by his scripts, I'd say the Platt stuff at least was meant to be humorous.

If you want to know why some people look down on soaps you only had to see tonights show to see why. Ridiculous stories with lol bad acting. If Helen Worth was an American movie actress she'd have won dozens of Razzies by now. Astonishingly bad and some how getting even worse.
All very entertaining though.
