I am from the older generation and am not offended by your post at all, I am no prude but what gets me is the harping on these days from feminists who feel that women are sexually harassed if a man even looks at a woman the wrong way. I think it all boils down to how much pride a person has in themselves. A person with any pride, dignity and class just wouldn't have sex infront of everyone in that bedroom, let alone on TV! I think it's shameful. Sadly, it seems to have been normalised in recent years, especially on 'reality' shows and as a consequence many have just become de-sensitised by that.

I don't want to get into this here because it's a bit off topic, but I think generally what feminists are speaking against in terms of common sexual harassment is the wolf-whistling, horn beeping and 'smile love' etc that women put up with on a near enough daily basis. I've endured comments like this in non-revealing clothes and even when pushing my infant daughter through town in the day. It's intimidating and it's not about complimenting females. It's men asserting their control and it's not 'harmless'.

The sexual freedom on Love Island is different. It's between consensual adults who are highly physically attracted to one another. Sex means different things to different people and yes I agree that it is taken freely and can mean nothing but self-satisfaction; just look at the popularity of Tinder for casual hookups. However to me sex doesn't need to equate to love or any deeper emotion, and as long as the consensual adults are happy with their sexual activity, then so be it.

The only (?) solution is to keep chucking newcomers in but even they are immediately cowed by ominous warnings, dirty looks and plain old ostracisation.

I don't know what the solution might be apart from keeping two houses/villas and forcing a reshuffle at various intervals. Yes, it's been done with Big Brother in at least one country but that sort of major upheaval would produce far more drama.

As it stands now, you have two types of couples: the ones who actually care about each other thus making the six weeks a proper holiday or the couples-of-convenience interested strictly in winning.

I don't think Tom is being 'real' with Sophie. Straight away he showed an intense interest in her. I think he feels it's what the viewers want to see, and they're both in it for the prize money.

I agree with this, I think Tom realised pretty quickly that there was no future with Sophie (especially when they used to have their talks and she would be really evasive about how she really felt) however they've both decided to go along with it rather than start afresh with someone else and the public voting for them that one time cemented it as they think they've got a better chance of winning together. Sophie's mum telling her she approved of Tom also saved that 'relationship' coz I think Sophie was ready to jump ship.

Yes, I also think they're at different stages in their lives. Sophie is more mature. Despite being older and more mature she also likes to party. I think Tom is more uptight and more into his fitness. He could never handle a woman who likes to go out drinking and having a good time. I know opposites can attract, but I think this relationship is based on the prize money.
