I think the deal breaker was the fact it happened at the studios, if it had happened in the privacy of his own home it might've been a different story. That's not to mention the fact he slagged half the cast off.

The press would not have dropped it had he stayed in the show. I think if the press had gone quiet about it they might've left it at his suspension. According to Leslie, he only planned to stay until the 20th anyway but I'm not sure I believe that.
