Wikipad £50

Wikipad is £49.98 at ebuyer.

Anyone own one, it's looks pretty good for the price.

Not too clued up on the specs, it has a NVIDIA Tegra Quad Core and a Interchangeable Controller thing that could be pretty useful for classic 16 bit games.

Just bought one for my son's birthday (25/6) so haven't tried it out yet but it does get very good reviews even when it was in the £200 range so at £50 it should be even better.

Similar spec to the 2013 Nexus 7, seems like a good buy for the price.

I took a look at the spec for this. It looks interesting especially at that price, but the fact that it appears to be stuck on Jellybean puts me off.

It also doesn't say whether Google Play store is supported.

Does it have a HDMI port?

According to the spec, yes.

It has a micro HDMI port. I bought an adapter from eBay for a pound.

Almost certainly will support google play but updates I suspect are going to be the problem.

Well "almost certainly" is not the same as "yes" . There are some Android tablets that don't support it, I believe.

And yes, being permanently stuck on Jellybean would be a problem for me.

With the way my N7 has got gradually worse to the point of being unusable, I'm not sure updates are that important. In fact, I've yet to find any feature added to the N7 thats actually made an upgrade worthwhile.

Happy now ?

The biggest issue for me with one of those, would be the measly 16GB flash storage. You'd be surprised at just how quickly you could fill that up.

Can just upgrade it yourself with a 32gb or 64gb micro sd card.

For media storage yes you can, but for installing apps etc it won't help as most apps can't be moved to an SD card.

What about using programs like App2SD or Link2SD ?

Those might work, but there may be issues as it's not a supported function of the OS for most apps.

You may also need to root the tablet to use some of these functions.

Looks pretty good as a handheld games console. Initially released for £249.99, I think £50 is a bit of a bargain. I already have two tablets but the gaming aspect is tempting me to buy one.

I got one some months ago now the first time the £50 ebuyer deal came up and am really glad I did. You can tell it was originally a £250 bit of kit as even the packaging has a real quality feel to it which extends to the tablet and controller.

The tablet runs Android 4.2, which i don't think will receive any updates but it still has the full play store and I think the vast majority of apps and games can still run under 4.2. Eventually support might be a problem but not in the short term at least.

Despite the somewhat old Tegra 3 it seems to blast through 3D games just fine. The included Dead Trigger runs smooth and looks great for a phone/tablet game.

Another boon is the ability to install emulators for virtually any older system. The integrated controller works with almost all emulators and the screen is ideal being plenty large enough to see what is happening clearly but not making the visuals look as pixellated as playing on a huge HDTV does.

And if you want the full size tv experience just connect a micro hdmi cable. The tablet controller is cleverly built so that it doesn't block headphone or micro hdmi ports so you can still connect to a tv or use headphones with the tablet docked to the controller - it's really well/thoughtfully designed!
