Yeah, they're linked. I did have loads, but I've also built loads! I pick up pretty much everything too. I've heard someone at Abernathy sells it and also scavenger stations collect it slowly? Might try that.

Tip for anyone, sell your fusion cores just before they run out, vendors still pay full price for them for some reason.

I was the same. They were the last faction I found.

Do you have the Scavenger perk? It helps with getting extra stuff from scrapped weapons and armour.
Build Scav stations at each settlement.
Vendors have extortionate pricing for material shipments. But they do usually have a list of scrap for sale.
FYI - Things outside the green boundary that can't be picked up, like tyres & wooden crates, can be dragged into the build zone and then scrapped too.

Yes, but I mostly get metal, copper, screws etc... from weapons, sometimes I tiny bit of wood from shotguns. Ah yeah, buying junk with wood in it would be a good idea actually. I do that for other things. A nice, didn't think of that either, shame I can't drag whole trees

Is there a way to tell which icons on the map are able to be cleared?

Ok, one building material I'm out of now is wood. Had loads at the start from reclaiming trees, but they don't come back. Does anyone know another good source of it?
Baseball guy in Diamond City has a 'Shipment of Wood' Ooer. But only if you have the caps. You should start charging all those settlers you're bound to have

Think I've come to the conclusion after so many hours that I prefer the open areas to the Main City ruins. Just a hell of a lot of grenade throwing dying goes on there..

If you've gone in there and killed everything, some places on your map when you hover over them will say CLEARED in capitals. I think some don't because they might be recycled and spawn new enemies later.

The places you haven't been to yet but found information on and so pop up on your map won't be highlighted until you get there. No area is level restricted.

I think that's what you mean

I spent 2 hours last night just decorating my Diamond city house. Then a further hour trying to figure out how to put a shack on the top of my Red Rocket base.

I want to know if there's a way to tell which icons can have the cleared text below them. I'm going to backtrack and try and clear as much between Sanctuary and diamond city as I can, atleast then I know I won't have missed anything. But I don't want to be spending ages searching through areas if there's nothing there and they can't be 'cleared'

It's still a bit fiddly.
I have lights but no power getting to them despite connectors being on the same wall. Not just at Sanctuary. Happens at the other settlements too.

Grr. I'm just trying to make my way over to Greentop Nursery and there are bugs, ghouls, bloatflies and a piggin' radroach to deal with on the way. God, this game is a whole lot tougher than 3. And what's the Galleria all about? I went in for a look around and after being welcomed I was attacked! Came away with nothing useful!

Is there any point in making settlements? I have the one the minutemen made me make in Sanctuary but I can't see any use for it apart from storing my stuff. Any point in making a settlement?

I was going to ignore the settlement-building stuff, but after being more or less obliged to do one at Sanctuary I've found it's quite fun. I don't know what the overall purpose is though.

Yeah, me too. I thought I was going to be able to buy a new Mr. Handy/Gutsy but no.
Getting yelled at by the chef after I went in the kitchen was funny.

There was a legendary Bloodbug that absolutely panned me last night. Hit me with the venom and I was down in about 5 seconds, even in power armour.

It always works for me. What I do is get a generator, then put switch on the outside of the building, then connect it to the generator. Once you have one connected, you can connect other switches to themselves, a pylon, or back to the generator again if you prefer.

The switches have an area of effect, whereby all lights close to them will be powered, but it's not huge, so make sure you have a couple for each side of the building. They also don't like connecting around corners, so you may need to run another wire from the generator to a pylon, to reach the other sides of the building and get full coverage.

thing that are annoying me

im getting annoyed with the constantly repeating minutemen missions i thought i would just leave them but then started coming up failed , failed failed, etc. i can understand giving them to you after finishing the main story but i havent yet

i liked visiting every location on the map in fallout 3 the filled and unfilled lacation marker triangles were better than the system in fallout 4.

is there a perk like in fallout 3 an vegas that reveals all locations on the maps so you know where to go an visit? how many locations are there.

i love clearing out locations it just annoys me when they go to uncleared again

it feels like im doing missions in a war zone rather than exploring a wasteland like in fallout 3. its a god game still but not the one i wanted

Reclaiming stuff at one settlement and having it at others because of trade routes is useful. You'll also need to build several small settlements if you want to progress with the minutemen. Not sure there's a huge amount of reason to build massive settlements, other than for fun, to get the benevolent leader perk, or as you say to store and modify stuff.

It's also good once you can get stores though because you can have all the best stores in one place, wherever you want, and to do that you'll need lots of settlers, so you'll need to attract them by building your settlement up, making sure you have enough food, water, beds, radio tower etc... then you'll need to defend it, so before you know it, the settlement can get pretty big, so then you might as well decorate it That's how it was with me anyway. Stores also generate caps for you.

I only figured out recently, you can give your settlers anything. One of mine is walking around with a missile launcher Apparently, you can even put them in power armour and it never runs out, but I've not tried that yet.

There are connectors on every panel. All wired. It's like Xmas lights. There's always one...

Is there a Picket Fences that gives you different coloured lights? I'd like some tactical reds to match my PA headlamp.

It's how I'm tracking who does what.
Full armour for guards & provisioners. They also get the best guns. AR or laser rifle plus sidearm and a few throwables. (I was so proud of one of my provisioners when she took out a band of raiders single handed. I kept an eye on her with my sniper rifle making sure she didn't get hurt. Girl did her job well.)
Armour on leg is farmer
Helmet for artillery
Armour on arm for scavenger

I would put them in PA but I've taken to making a Tony Stark workshop at The Castle.
I've arranged my 12 PA suits around the inner wall with a different paint job on the complete sets.
