...yep, have to agree!! The amount of times the dumb dog is standing in a doorway and I can't get through cos he's blocking it, is ridiculous!!
How do I tell him to, DO ONE, or am I stuck with him for the whole game?!!!!! You need him for a quest at one point but you can dismiss him again. Quote:
so bit the bullet and bought it again at the weekend. Enjoying it much more now I actually played for longer than a couple of hours. Is it recommended to stick to quests rather than clearing out buildings you find on your travels? Yesterday I was doing the first quest after you get sanctuary (to go help some camp) and I went past a big radar - I cleared that out then found a Quary too, I went to that and ended up killing some named guy, but after googling how to drain the water it seems like I could of actually talked to that person in a later quest??! he appeared as an enemy so I just rifled him from distance using vats!
I'm at 170+ hours and have only done about 20 unique quest and only 2 from the main quest line. I've still got locations to discover. I kept that guy alive and helped him. Went back to the quarry later and saw it emptied and filled with his unsavoury friends and a Mirelurk fighting pit. Quote:
Is it possible to create doors and fit them to existing buildings or do they only work with buildings you've created yourself?
I was planning to fortify my original house and use it as a base but only if I can fit new doors. On a grander scale, it occurs to me that it might be possible to build a shelter and then, once you've got the "construction zone" around it you could scrap everything in the area and then remove the shelter, move on a little bit and repeat in order to gradually get rid of every bit of junk and debris on the entire map. ![]() You can only build and scrap in pre-selected areas I'm afraid. Until someone mods in a buildable Workshop bench anyway. Quote:
How high can you build?....I've seen a video where someone built 21 stories...highest I could do was 7 stories. Maybe it's a mod?.

It may have been patched but most people had already moved on to the jet glitch anyway, which is much more efficient.

I'm on a PC, cheat glitches dont matter when you have the command console for them.
Making 100 deathclaws fight 100 supermutants is fun. . (deathclaws win and when you have loads of them together, they appear to gain invisible jet packs and can fly over high walls...its a glitch caused by having so many close to each other..very amusing to watch). It makes the game deadly boring though if used in your proper playthrough......but command console for messing about away from your main game...great fun. |

Bah!
I'm currently level 12 and I just realised I've been squandering all my perks. ![]() When the game first starts only the top row of the perk-tree is in colour and other levels are "greyed-out" so I've been pumping stars into a couple of the top-tier perks to try and "unlock" the 2nd-tier in those things and I just realised they don't NEED "unlocking" and you can just add stars to 2nd, 3rd or 4th tier perks whenever you want - and that the perk-tree scrolls down to reveal even more perks. Might have been nice if there was some kind of "tutorial" mission at the start that specifically required the player to add stars to a 2nd or 3rd tier perk, just to make you aware of how that all works. Still, I'm sure having Endurance, Intelligence and Agility cranked up to 8 has probably been helping me in some way. ![]() So anyway, about the main story...

I honestly don't get the glitching thing. There's more than enough spare gear around to sell off to make money.
I haven't bothered with them and every settlement bar Warwick Homestead (last one I acquired last night) have top level merchants 3k each. I clear out every vendor of their junk and ammo. I still have nearly 50k to spend. Which I won't because income exceeds expenditure. |

Well, I've dug myself into a bit of a hole at the moment.
I did the Taking Independence mission and I used, literally, EVERY bit of ammo' I had killing the Mirelurk Queen. I started off firing about 8 missiles into it (all into the underbelly) then emptied about 600 rounds of minigun ammo into it (admittedly, some of those were into it's shell to get it's attention when it was attacking somebody else) then I shot it with about 150 rounds from a laser rifle, then another couple of hundred .308 rounds from a pipe rifle as well as a dozen or so grenades. ![]() In the mean-time I'd also used up my 10mm ammo and .38 ammo shooting at regular Mirelurks and Hatchlings during the battle. Afterwards I was running around (in my power armour), completely defenceless, with Mirelurk Hatchlings chasing me and I was jumping on top of boxes like a little girl and waiting for Cait to come and shoot them for me! ![]() So, is there any way to manufacture any type of ammunition yourself or can it only be looted or bought? Is there anywhere, in particular, where large quantities of ammo' can be found? |

Mind you I am level 37 on Normal. Makes me think I should up my difficulty again ![]() On the ammo question, you can't make it yourself unfortunately, and best place to get it is old army places or vendors. There a perk that helps find more as well, I think its the Scrounger one. |

I found myself running out of ammo early on.
After a few hours I just sold everything and bought up ammo with the profits. I was lucky enough to be able to buy the Spray & Pray quite early on, around level 10. So when I came to liberate the Castle I had a decent stockpile of .45 and could damage Queenie. Helped by the fact I backed off into the Castle walls and popped off at her through one of the holes, protecting me from the poison spray and hidden from most of the hatchlings so I wasn't distracted. |

Do you mean income from resident vendors you've set up in your settlements?
But the stuff I pick up from the idiots who think it's a good idea to attack me (or come into scope range) that I sell. I put points into Strong Back so I can can load up beyond stupid levels. One trip I came back with nearly 2,000lbs of gear (cleared out Fallons, Gunners Plaza & Quincy (anywhere there are Gunners is profit waiting to happen as they carry decent weapons & armour)). After giving a few items away to settlers & selling the rest of the gear and clearing out vendors of junk, meds & ammo I made nearly 3k profit. I haven't once been short of caps in the entire playthrough. Ammo, yes, in the early stages. But then I sold the spare gear and bought ammo. Now I have thousands of rounds, shells & cells. Only ammo type not in the thousands is Railway Spikes which is around the 600 mark (and .38 which is beyond useless and used only as vendor fodder). Caps are basically worthless. I've only bought one weapon (Spray & Pray) which I only used at low level. They're only good for balancing the books. I need ammo, but I need caps. Sell gear to balance the expenditure on ammo and make profit to sit in my account not collecting interest. In all the recent Fallout games I have hundreds of thousands of caps with nothing to spend them on. It's the same in the ES games too. My main character in Skyrim (who still hasn't finished the main story ![]() ) has over 1.5m gold coins. The economy aspect needs someone at Bethesda to have a look at it. Maybe use caps/gold for settlement improvements. Weekly/daily payment of companions. Rent/mortgage.

I've been hoovering up guns, clothing and armour since I started playing and I've been storing them in some filing cabinets at my base with the intent of eventually going through them all methodically to figure out which weapon mod's I can strip off and fit to decent guns and compare which armour mod's are best. I haven't gotten around to it yet, though, and as a result I've got literally hundreds of items sitting in each filing cabinet. ![]() I really need to spend some time on a good session of "housekeeping" and I also need to look at setting up a store so I can start flogging all the tat that I've accumulated. |

When I unlock the salvage perk I might just scrap a bunch down, to use on mods. Although that means unlocking the mods perks too... uhh PS I finally got fed up with Dogmeat and told him to piddle off back to Sanctuary. I gave him a doghouse in front of my place at least. I'm thinking I'll go solo but have just picked up Nick Valentine, so maybe it's time to give a proper companion a go. |

Some of the companions give you extra quests. The Nick Valentine and Curie quests I thought were enjoyable.

Absolutely love this game
![]() I'm excited due to the fact next year we will get a lot of dlc plus mods will be available which I think will make a massive difference and will keep us entertained for many hours. I still love Fallout 3 and have started playing again between Fallout 4 as it brings back a lot of nostalgic feelings. However, Fallout 4 is a all round a better game. |

I've just rescued the actor from Trinity Tower and decided to adopt Strong as my companion (Codsworth wasn't happy to be parked back at Sanctuary) but Strong doesn't seem very good at getting stuck in. He hangs back and by the time he's knocking heads together I'm dead! I may go and get Codsworth again, he was fairly effective and he says things that make me laugh.

Ironically, Strong seems a bit weak. After the quest I gave him the super mutant armour I picked up in the tower and packed him off to Covenant with the rest of them. He ran into 2 regular super mutants just around the corner from Trinity Tower near the blocked subway entrance. They tore him a new one. They only had pipe pistols and he's packing an assault rifle. I was messing about looking for bones in the meatbags when I heard the gunfire. Decided to check it out and he's down to almost zero health. They were both at around 3/4 health. |
