Another tip to regulate ammo usage is to adopt two completely separate loadouts and then alternate between them if ammo' starts getting scarce.
For example, have one loadout that comprises a .50 bolt-action rifle for sniping, a .45 combat rifle for the loud stuff and a 10mm pistol for CQB and another loadout that comprises a .308 boltie, a laser rifle and a .44 pistol.
That way if you start to run out of, say, .50 calibre ammo you can just swap completely to the alternate loadout and know that you'll be replenishing ammo for the opposite loadout as you go along.
To make it easier, I rename weapons using a different prefix to denote the different loadouts.
For example:-
- .50 Sniper Rifle
- .45 Combat Rifle
- 10mm Pistol
vs
> .308 Sniper Rifle
> Laser Rifle
> .44 Pistol
That way I know I just need to grab everything with a "-" prefix or everything with a ">" prefix and I'll be set to go.
Saves having to constantly faff around deciding what gun to use to replace one that's low on ammo and then potter about modding it to make it as good as the one you're currently using.
