The game never saves after fast travel. It saves at the point you use fast travel. ie when you left, not when you arrive.
Yeah, that's bad.

If the game constantly saves your progress every minute there'd be no sense of danger or threat of loss.
ha, this is the excuse that fans like to use to cover Bethesda's tecnical incompetency. "It's more of a challenge". What does that say about any other game that has the decency to save at appropriate times? Is Witcher 3 not challenging? Is Watch Dogs 2 not challenging? Is Phantom Pain not challenging? These all have great auto saving and the combat is challenging as hell.

The sense of danger comes from getting your ass kicked and potentially not beating the game. The sense of loss comes from your settlements potentially being raided. Danger and loss is supposed to be incorporated into the gameplay itself, not into its technical aspects.

The fact of the matter is game engine Bethesda is using simply can't handle all the auto saving. It's a last gen rpg problem, much like loading to go in and out of buildings which is unacceptable at this point.

I must stress I am really enjoying the game but technically it lacks polish.

I read somewhere that level scaling is very bad in this game and playing past level 100 is a nightmare with bullet sponging enemies. Apparently, even though your perk upgrades have limits enemies continue to get stronger so you can encounter very, very powerful enemies at random times. I'm nervous because I'm level 26 and have only done 4 main missions.

This faction choosing is harder than the gameplay itself!!! Morally, I side with the Minute Men and the Rail Road but Brotherhood of Steel basically have everything I would need to survive the wasteland!!! I don't want to join their narrow minded, murderous cause but I really don't want them as an enemy lol The worst part is that because this is Bethesda I know at some point the game will (unintentionally) have me turn against a faction without making that very clear.

I've just done the mission for the Rail Road where I'm going
Spoiler
and I've got a nice new power suit (which I probably won't use - I've only worn power armour 4 times in this game and one of those times I was kind of forced to).

Curious to know what factions others have sided with...

The one thing I will say I like about Fallout 4 is the way the game makes you utilise more stuff in your inventory than in Fallout 3. I don't believe I ever used rad x, rad away, med x, jet or bouffat in Fallout 3. Now I never go anywhere without them and have had to kick a chem additction quite a few times. I even use certain clothes to boost my success rate in persuasion now when usually I can't be bothered to change them. I'm level 37, a tank and playing mainly with my maxed out machete and I love it. I'm slicing and dicing deathclaws all over the place and I have about 8 perks unspent

I bought Far Harbor and Nukaworld in the recent PSN sale. Just completed Far Harbor yesterday. I thought it was graphically impressive and there were some tough enemies, but the story was quite dull an unmemorable IMO. Also memory puzzle number 5 is the worst thing in any Bethesda game.

An absolute ball ache. I won't be doing that again in any subsequent replays.

How far can I go with Railroad and BOS before making the latter my enemy? From my understanding how far you can go with each faction depends on the choices you have made along the way in terms of how you involve them in the main quest.

I have joined every faction so far and using the railroad, I have already

and plan to complete my quests for the Railroad to its end. I know that

and if push came to shove I would choose Railroad over the BOS because I agree with their philosophy. However, I want to do as many missions for the BOS as possible before crossing that bridge but don't know where to stop.

My active quest for the Railroad is Underground Undercover ('get password for Code Defender').

My active quests for BOS are From Within ('Locate Doctor Li') and Outside the Wire ('give the holotape to Proctor Ingram').

Will giving the holotape to Proctor Ingram and locating Doctor Li

Is there an order in which I should do these missions to avoid
Spoiler

Thanks.

I sided with the Minute Men and Railroad. I'd just got up to the undercover bit when my XB1 decided to go red light and blew up. Game over. I'll wait for the all-new XB next year. I've gone back to playing Fallout3 on my old XB360 - it's a more enjoyable game anyway.

I'm almost sure you get a warning if your about to do a quest that turns a faction into an enemy.

You know FO3 is backwards compatible on the Xbox One?

Sorry I should have read your post more carefully, thought you meant something in the game blowing up lol

Sorry about your xbox though.

If you're none too bothered about trophies/achievements, there IS a mod to make DIMA's memories much more simple and less time consuming, but you do only need the first two complete to continue with the story, the rest are optional and stay in your journal until DIMA dies (if you choose to kill him).

The ending.

Spoiler

So many sacrifices and betrayals. What a bloody great game and story. Bethesda excels at world building and I can't wait to see where they go next.
