Game also told me last night at 10 o'clock that they were processing my order. Hopefully, they'll send it out before end of business hours Saturday. I can't bear the thought that my copy is lying neglected & alone in a warehouse possibly only about 17 miles from me! (Their Head Office is registered in Basingstoke, so if the warehouse is next door...)

In other news Game have despatched my Pip Boy! I was among the lucky people who didn't have their order messed up thankfully.
Yes I'm a sucker for cheap plastic gaming dust collectors but it beats having teddies and scary dolls about on the bedroom wall shelves I reckon. He'll be unboxed and my first companion when I boot up Fallout 4 for the first time. The game was dispatched mid-day yesterday. 1-2 days. Could it be today. Could it be Monday. I can't take the anticipation! I'm spending the wait thinking about the type of character I'll be. Weapon and personality wise. |

Has anyone had their order turn up yet? Mine is showing as dispatched so I'm guessing I am at the mercy of Royal mail now.
I just hope they don't do a repeat of my black ops delivery. |

I liked the story, but that's subjective, I thought some of the DLC got particularly epic. I loved the sense of freedom on the game too, it was beyond anything I'd played. To give an example, I remember completing the game, a big part of which involves finding your father, so when I restarted the game, I just went straight back to that location basically as soon as I left the vault and it worked! Most other games would have some caveat to stop you doing that and advancing the story so early. I also got to the big ship/ rig thingy from the start and managed to get hold of a load of advanced weapons along the way which I ended up storing there, because I knew where everything was from playing through the first time. The game didn't try to limit me on that front, even if the enemies in the area were massively above my level!
The game world also seemed really alive with all the random encounters as well. I remember sneaking up to a random white tent that I'd not seen in the area before (with my Chinese stealth armour on ) and seeing a bunch of nurses dissecting a body Came back much later in the game and the tent was gone, and the game made no song and dance about it, It just happened... Draw distance was incredible too, stood on a satellite, I could make out some spec of a robot in the distance and I was still able to shoot it free aim and see it reacting to getting shot! I personally didn't find it that dialogue heavy, I think in most cases, the game let the action do the talking. Granted, it's not as spartan as a game like Dark Souls or Dragons Dogma where the game basically just allows you to figure stuff out by experiencing playing the game, but I think at times, their 'stories' or lack of could feel a bit barren and I always thought Fallout was a happy medium. Had some really incredible side missions too- some were more interesting than the main story. I seem to remember something about a fountain of youth type thing, some malicious AI that kept everyone in a sort of virtual reality stasis/ limbo so he could kill them over and over again in a weird world based on something out of stepford wives, and some area where kids were in control of the area, sort of like Bugsy Malone ![]() Even after I'd been everywhere and done everything, I still kept going back just to wander around, knocking off re-spawned enemies as I went. Apart from the edges of the map, there is nowhere you can't go, and I decided early on to walk everywhere rather than use the fast-travel feature. You come across loads of interesting stuff this way. If F4 is even half as good I'll be happy. I have to wait for Christmas day though

I don't understand all the hype surrounding Fallout, and so I've decided to play either Fallout 3 or New Vegas.
Question is which one ? I really hope I haven't asked a "which is better Star Trek or Star Wars" type question, even though Star Wars is a million times better

I also loved Fallout 3. The general ambience, the music, everything... except the dodgy frame rate (on PS3). I completed it several times. Easily in my top 5 favourite ever games. I'm going to wait for reviews though before I buy Fallout 4.

Fallout: New Vegas is a better game. Better characters. Better writing. Better balance. Better storyline. More depth in the RPG mechanics. And far less metro stations than 3.

If you get Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas always pay the extra for the game of the year editions.. it is worth it and will save you loads on buying DLC packs.

If it's taken them 6 years to make this game, then how can it be rushed?

I'm just saying from what some people are saying.. the way it was announced etc was kinda rushed you have to admit..
When they announced it, it didn't felt like it was rushed to me, more of a surprise. But just because it came out of the blue doesn't mean it was rushed. |

It's weird though because it's supposed to be world wide release on the 10th
When you said 'critics are giving it a massive bashing' did you mean official critics, or just a couple of people you know in Germany who have managed to get it early? |

When you said 'critics are giving it a massive bashing' did you mean official critics, or just a couple of people you know in Germany who have managed to get it early? "Feel free to ask questions about the game, I can answer them. I've tried it on both my PS4 and my PC. One of the benefits of working in a distribution center is that we get access a week early. And unlike reviewers we're not under embargo until the day of release, a very sketchy decision by Bethesda that I now understand having played it." "As far as the game itself there are several problems: The size of the world, the combat (its literally copy pasted from Fallout 3[3] ), the graphics, the terrible story filled with cliches and the simplistic 2 choices they give you at the end, the way the choices you make in the game have almost no impact over the long term, the animation, the terrible dialogue and writing and the AI come to mind. Every single quest has been essentially a fetch quest, only 3 I can remember tried to do something other than telling you to go somewhere, kill something/bring back an object from there. Since its using the same engine that bethesda has been using for year and since the last generation, everything feels incredibly similar and dated. There are a lot of bugs too. Now all of those an be fixed by modders, but no amount of mods can fix what is fundamentally broken with the game: its shallow story and incredibly repetitive quests. There are also good things, especially the crafting system. Its really well done and gives you tons of choices for how to make your weapon. The character customization is amazing, you can spend hours in the face molder and make exactly how you want yourself to look. The game runs smooth on PC, I've had no performance issues. Also I liked one particular follower a lot, easily my favorite follower in any Bethesda game. This will get me crucified with the fanboys as did my criticism of the games graphics in other threads, but **** it." Everybody might want to lower their expectations if this is genuine

Everybody might want to lower their expectations if this is genuine ![]() A lot of people seem to think the graphics look awful for example, but I think they look good, and some of the criticisms there seem to be squared at that. Only slight worry for me is game world size. I do love a big map, but apparently it's as big as Skyrim, with more accessible areas than Skyrim had and people have known that for a while, but Skyrim was big enough for me, so if it's that size, I'm happy. Thanks for the info anyway, decent critique is always good.
