When Aussie soaps go abroad...
I've been always fascinated by Australian soaps where they go abroad.
How many times did Neighbours go to London? I remember the Sullivans which was set everywhere, and yet filmed entirely within Melbourne, and had scenes in UK, and IIRC a Japanese POW camp with white actors in yellowface. Any memorable foreign episodes of Aussie soaps, either clearly filmed in Oz or filmed abroad, but mainly the former... |

The best was when Donald, Irene, Hayley and co came to London and Donald bumped into Marilym. Emily had to take a break from Emmerdale to come down to London to film it!

Sons and Daughters had scenes set in Brazil and possibly Ireland but they were never actually filmed abroad but on a set or location in Australia.
I remember Neighbours coming to London and Karl met Izzy to find that she'd become a footballer's WAG and was married to or was dating the guy who played Sal in Footballers Wives. |

The Sullivans had scenes set in many countries but it was mostly filmed around Melbourne. They did film in the Netherlands on one occasion.
Police soap Cop Shop filmed location shots for one storyline in Rome, Italy. The associated interior scenes (set in Rome) were taped in Melbourne. Skyways apparently had a storyline set in Hong Kong with location shots taken there using a local crew. E Street had a storyline where Max went to New Zealand, with location shots taken there. The only one I have seen is the bit where Sons and Daughters had scenes in Brazil, that were shot near Sydney. But I think it was mainly shots around a mansion and its gardens, not streetscapes or town scenes as such. |

Must be getting on for 20 years ago now when Brett Stark and Susan Kennedy went to Africa (Kenya, I think)

I remember Home & Away many years ago, probably around mid-late 90s came to England and went to Stratford-Upon-Avon, Shropshire and places like that. I remember it because my first thought was that it was about time that a show from outside the UK realised that there are places other than London that exist in the UK.
