A way to redeem Tracy Barlow
To make her atone for all her sins etc etc - I was thinking maybe they should go down the abused by an adult route when she was 13-14.....so 1990-91....the start of teen Tracy "You rotten cowin tart!!" This was the moment rebellious Tracy began and soon came the drugs and all the rest of it.
Tracy will reveal all to Ken....they could choose an ex character from the time and have him prosecuted - maybe Reg Holdsworth. Ken Morley would return and deny everything - but would be proven guilty and send down. Tracy could then have counselling and rebuild her life. I should be producer!! |

She couldn't be redeemed if she was canonised by the Pope.

To be honest I wouldn't want to see Tracy completely reformed and become a goody two shoes. However, I would like to see her getting her comeuppance and showing some remorse which changed her just a little bit for the better. Deirdre's death would be a good turning point.

Tracy should go to the police and admit what she did.

I think my idea would explain a lot - not that abused teens kill their boyfriends in cold blood

Phil Jennings might be a better alternative than Reg for the adult abuser character. He was a very shady character and he was very close to Tracy (being in a relationship with Deirdre at the time).

I still wouldn't feel sympathy for her, sorry. Especially after the way she treated others. And it will just give the character another excuse to not take responsibility for her actions.

Even if tracy had been abused when she was young (and could anyone envisage ken as a paedophiliac abuser) this wouldn't redeem her. Redemption can only come from a person's own behaviour.
Tracy would have to do something which was important to people outside herself to be redeemed. |

Yes she's good at playing Tracy, as far as that goes, but the character is so dreadfully one dimensional that rather than hatred as such, I am now just bored to tears with her, to the point where I almost switch off mentally during her scenes!! All the best villains have light as well as shade, either that or they're genuinely scary like Jez Quigley, Tracy just doesn't & isn't....she's one dimensional and boring!! So in reply to your point 'Don't you love to hate her' OP, frankly NO, the character just isn't worth it imo, sorry!! |

I don't think it would suit her, it kind of what makes her character she don't really have a valid reason for being such a bitch or evil she just a selfish mare who wants everything to be about her.

The only good thing about this idea is that it suits Tracy down to the ground in that all her life she has blamed others and never taken responsibility for her own evil and nasty actions.
Seriously would anyone believe her if she did suddenly come out with this or would everyone justifiably see it as simply yet another get out of jail free card ![]() ![]() She needs to fess up and take her punishment for once

It is an interesting idea & I briefly wondered if they might go down that sort of route in order to get the audience to sympathise with Tracy because I don't see how they can redeem her now. But for her character I don't think it would work. If Tracy had been abused she wouldn't have stayed quiet all this time; initially as a child she might not have said anything but adult Tracy certainly would have done. She would have raised it at her murder trial to get sympathy from the jury & at some point she would have tried to get some compensation from the abuser or blackmailed them.I think she'd be a lot more protective of Amy in fear that the same might happen to her; she wouldn't be wandering around starting fires in the middle of the night with no idea where her daughter was! Also whenever Ken or Deidre had a go at her about her bad behaviour she would have blamed it on the abuse & said it was all their fault for not noticing it happen. Tracy loves blaming other people for her mistakes or actions, she never accepts responsibility for herself. Also even if was true who would believe her, especially if it comes out she started the fire. And it would ruin some other poor character who's suddenly turned into a paedophile.

Hmm I don't think she can be redeemed - she committed murder and a stupid excuse was used to release her. She intended to murder Carla and her actions started the fire. Now she is accusing Carla for the deaths that were caused by her.

Tracy can't be redeemed, she's done too many wicked and awful things and never ever learns from them. She murdered Charlie, and now laughs and jokes about it, before thinking of doing the same thing again to Carla, she's a psycho who believes if she doesn't like someone or they upset her she can bump them off
. She's got a swinging brick where her heart should be and thinks only of herself, money, sex and revenge - in that order!
