I think that is part of it, as is whether they are a good match, but the strength of character of the celeb is another aspect that I like to see tested.

Holly Valance was a celeb who I thought had great potential to be one of the best ever on the show. She had Artem and I think if she was someone who really had the drive to succeed at Strictly she could have done very, very well. She seemed even more laid back than Artem sometimes is and that's fine. I don't know why she was on the show and she seems a lovely girl in every way - just didn't go for it.

I think she is a good example of someone who was pushed into it by their agent. She didn't seem to be a fan, or even a casual watcher, of the show. She talked a bit at the time about wanting to reintroduce herself to a UK audience so she had probably been told it would be good for her career, but I think SCD only really helps in that respect if you improve the public's opinion of you and I'm not sure her laid-back attitude came over that well when combined with the VTs of her helicopters and sports cars etc. At least she was herself though and didn't pretend the show was of life and death importance.

I agree with you that she probably could've been a bit better than she was, but to some extent I think she was scuppered by the producers pairing her with Artem for tabloid stories rather than because they would make a good dance partnership. I think with someone taller she would've looked less awkward and moved better in the ballroom dances and someone on more of a wave-length humour-wise might have let her show more personality. On the other hand, she could just be one of those 'good on paper' celebs who never would've been that great.
