Why Is Marc So Popular?

I can't for the life of me understand why Marc is popular. He exemplifies the type of housemate that would generally be considered unpopular. He is crass and rude to his fellow HMs, asking things like whether Chloe was going to have an STD test. He is also very, very contrived. Everything he says and does is for the benefit of the cameras and the viewers. I can imagine him thinking, "I need attention, I want everything in the house to revolve around me". Doing things like deliberately untidying the house and throwing paper cups around so everyone would tidy up after him isn't him trying to be funny. It's him looking for airtime. Fair enough if people like him, but I can't understand why. I don't think he's "livening up the show" at all. I just find him incredibly grating and not the slightest bit funny. I think the show was just fine without him.

In the past, if someone did things for the benefit of the viewers, then they were criticised for it. Only last series, Mark was slated for it. And also, in today's series, Simon is criticised for being fake and contrived, and yet it's okay for Marc to be fake and contrived.

Because he knows that Big Brother is just a game, he knows that most of the friendships in there are fake and he is stirring it up.

What are you using to measure this popularity? A few posts on here? Not wise if so.
Haven't heard a crowd reaction for him yet, he hasn't been up for eviction yet and survived. I don't think he will get anywhere near the final, and if he somehow does, then I think he will be up for eviction every week. A real test would be for him to go one on one with jack in a vote to evict (I don't like Jack btw, just think he will go the distance)

He's like a steroidal Sam Pepper and it's understandable that he divides opinion the same way.

I don't speak for anyone else but his antics make me chuckle...and the series was very short on laughs before last Friday.

True, but I would wager that if his name gets mentioned on Friday, it will be followed by cheers. Just like Conor, who was a vile housemate, and came out to cheers from the audience.

What does fake mean (other than what it says in the dictionary)?

With all those steroids in his system I wonder if he suffers from periodic "roid rage" when things get heavy.

He's been getting lots of positive comments on here, on BB's official Facebook page and on BOTS. And I can't understand why.

Don't see Marc as fake or contrived. I do think he has a version of short man syndrome that manifests itself in his somewhat outrageous behavior but I think it really is an aspect of his personality. He is smart..self aware..he has pointed out a number of truths you rarely hear..I've even heard him admit some of his own weakness and flaws. In someways he reminds me of Rex who is probably my favorite BB Housemate of all times

I liked Rex and Marc doesn't remind me of him. Rex didn't say and do things to get airtime. He did it for a laugh and also because he wanted the public to vote him out. Marc on the other hand, is IMO, doing these things because he is constantly looking for attention and airtime.

God knows! I would give him a mile wide berth if I spotted him.

Because he doesn`t sit around all day bitching about other HMs & moaning about tasks or sucking up to the others so as not to get nominated. I am sooooooooo bored of HMs that are too scared to actually DO anything apart from anaylse the show & pretend they all like each other, when clearly they don`t, because they then bitch about each other in secret.

Marc is the most honest one in there & the funny thing is, he is less likely to be nominated, despite the fact that he tells them all what he thinks of them. Maybe some of the others should give it a try for a change.

Ok. A better way of telling will be how many evictions he survives. My guess is he will be gone at the first one he faces.

At first I didn't like him, but now I think he is a brilliant housemate. Some of the others were so nice and quiet, they blended in to the wallpaper. Now he has woken them up and it makes the show more interesting to watch.

I don't think he actually takes himself that seriously. He just can see how easy it is to wind ppl up.

He's a crude obnoxious tool but I have a sneaking liking for him

Because he is one of the 1% of HMs across the 15 years of BB that understands that this is a game.

And hr doesn't take himself too seriously. He has not only livened the house up, but also made the dull Hms interesting.

He IS like Rex. To the person who said Rex didn't do things for airtime? Huh? Were you even watching BB9? He was as much as a WUM as Marc.

Two things that come to mind. The messing with thr shopping in BB9. And the two were very similar with the electric suits. Both purposely repeating the shocks of the hms and loving it.

He's a breath of fresh air. Fun, light hearted and happy. You cant compare him to Conor, Conor was angry and rude. Marc is charming and rude - he gets away with it either with a flash of his smile, or by talking round the other HMs. He runs rings around the other HMs.

I cant stand the eejit, mainly because he is such an obvious BB plant. I genuinely find it more astonishing that a lot of people here think his act is for real.

Probably because he's not afraid of saying what needs to be said. I think he's great when it comes to him not taking crap from the housemates goes. Yes, he's sexist and can be an idiot at times, but I love his I won't take crap from you attitude.

He's as much of a BB plant(bad actor) as Michael was...and as least Michael was nice.

Marc..is a revolting specimen...he makes my skin crawl*shudders* those teeth, that tatoo...those pumped up muscles on a tiny little man....combine that with a revolting personlaity and you have one massive ball of revoltiness....(if such a word exists)

He is clever and funny, and he clearly sees the game for what it is and calls out the bullshitters.

He crosses the line with his crude remarks sometimes, though.
