Kathy Beale return - explanation
TommyGiffen

I'm creating an article of 9 explanations as to how Kathy's back/why her death was faked and would appreciate some ideas?

Thank you!

because DTC thought she played a good ghost so had her rise her from the dead?

there is no good return explanation its just another in a long line of DTC's pointless retcons

Are you paying people for their ideas if you are writing an article? don't you work for a spoiler site?

Sounds like an interesting article. Are you going to put it up here when you're finished?

A few possible theories:

Insurance scam gone wrong - Kathy was coerced into 'faking' her death for a windfall, only for it to backfire spectacularly

Slavery - Kathy has been held as an illegal slave of some kind in Africa (! - if Julia Smith could read that as a story breakdown I think she would go cross-eyed)

Gangsters - Kathy has been forced to fake her death to 'take a hit' for gangster who wants her dead or wants revenge on Gavin - presumably if she hadn't 'died' they would have come after Ian and Ben instead, hence the deceit

On the run - Kathy has broken the law in some way and has faked her death to escape a long prison sentence in a South African jail

All of these sound a bit crazy. I can't wait to hear what DTC and the team have come up with ...

No explanation in the world can make this storyline work. It's the kind of storyline when a show has ran out of story's to tell.

Nobody believes the stupidity about Kathy faking her own death or the other wild theories people want to believe.

She dieded and then Jesus magiced her back because Phil was giving him grief.

Obviously something to do with Gavin

Wasn't there a film with Julia Roberts where an abused woman faked her own death to start over again - I know it isn't likely in this situation (surely she would have taken Ben with her) but she made it sound as though she was scared of Gavin when she spoke to Phil, so I'm just trying to work out what is going on there.

Kathy being alive isn't a retcon it's a twist.

It would only be a retcon if enough evidence had been shown on-screen to support her being dead, which wasn't the case, hence fans discussing her return for years.

Plus she probably couldn't stand the fact that one of her sons did this mannerism: all the freakin' time!

Mental abuse? Maybe Gavin was kind of like Lucas and did to Kathy what Lucas did to Denise.

The kind of storyline that was of a show that had ran out of stories to tell was the killing of Kathy off screen in order to try and create storylines for Phil by brining in Ben. This is an attempt to fix a mistake that happened in the past. Kathy should never have been killed off.

Gavin is a criminal who has pinned his crimes on Kathy. She needed to escape fast or be faced with drug smuggling, murder and theft charges.

Kathy has taken part in a reality TV show in which Phil and maybe Gavin is working as one of the executive producers. Somewhere in London, Kathy, Pat, Barry, Angie, and a few others are hiding out to get a £100 million prize for hiding away for 30 years. Kathy was desperate for money but is now riddled with guilt over what shes done to her family and wants to come home.

Kathy is a figment of Phil's imagination, only he can see her

When Phil was shot by Shirley,OR Lisa hes been unconscious ever since. Everything happening since then has been a dream

I can't wait to see her return. I have faith in DTC for making it a good reason for what happened.

Ha ha, that is hilarious. Do you think Rory Bremner could resurrect his borderline-PC impression of Nelson Mandela from the early 90's in flashback scenes as recruits Kathy?

I think it will be a similar plot to Julia Robert's Sleeping with the enemy. Kathy has faked her own death in an attempt to escape her nightmarish marriage, but discovers it is impossible to elude her controlling husband Gavin. Saying that how they going to explain about how Gavin so called been dead. Anyway I am not bothered how it's explained, I am just glad Kathy's back, she should of never been killed off in the first place. However I am looking forward to Kathy's return, I just wished Pat was still in the programme.

No, the bodies of Kathy and Gavin were identified by Gavin's sister.

I cant see it being anything other that a witness protection-esque storyline.

I dont think Gavin is a threat to Kathy, I think they became embroiled in something that they needed removing from via witness protection etc.

be it witnessing something, or typical EE gangster involvement, probably on Gavins part?

DTC and his inept team are only bringing her back from the dead to please the fans. Here's a tip don't kill them off in the first place then rewrite history taking viewers for mugs.
