I have a iPhone 4S 16GB and just looking at remaining space it says I have 6.6GB available left! How is this possible? I don't have many apps and I have just backed up my photos by removing them from the phone to laptop but the remaining space says the same!

What can I do to get more space back?

Either the phone itself (Settings->General->Usage->Manage Storage) or iTunes (which draws a graph) should help in this!

A chunk of the 16GB is taken up by the iOS software.
Try using battery doctor to free up some available space.

Good choice sir

I can swear by this - the first time i tried it and use the cache cleaner, it cleared about 230mb.

Have you got any music on your phone ?

You can re-encode it down to a lower bitrate with this.

http://www.amok.am/en/freeware/amok_mp3_reencoder/

I did that with all of my 320kb/s tunes and went from having about 6gb free on my 64gb 5s to having over 15gb free.

Just been going through the usage and removing apps I don't really use I have an iPad for app usage anyway now.

I cleared both mail boxes I have set up including Trash, Sent, Deleted and the main inboxes. All are cleared but the usage is still saying there's still 779MB around. I've backed up all my photos and so far I've managed and now I have 7.2GB free on the phone.
