Firstly, I love Ian Beale. I take pleasure in defending him in the worst of circumstances, but I cannot even believe what has just happened.

What if Cindy winds up dead in the common? You killed Lucy, Ian. It was all down to you.

It's all incredibly dark. I presume blubbing over Kathy is going to be his redemption but wow, this storyline.
Quite brave of EE though.

He was nasty. It was uncalled for.

It was all very sinister tonight. Almost felt like Bobby was going to kill again

Agreed. You've got to hand it to hem. They know how to really pull a character to the depths of morality. I was on the edge of my seat.

I don't blame Ian at all it was good of him to take Cindy in in the first place and she has done nothing but disrespect him and now even try to blackmail him. She's not his family and has never pulled her weight or made any effort with him or Jane I'm surprised its took him so long to kick her out.

I agree. Cindy was acting quite spoilt and selfish and that ultimatum about what Bobby did was completely uncalled for.

I can't defend him and Jane anymore either.

They will reap what they sow. Someone else, be it a child or even a family friend, will be killed by Bobby in the coming years, I bet, and by then it'll be too late.

By taking no action now, by letting him go unpunished and letting him get everything he wants, Ian and Jane are just nurturing the monster further.

As a fan of Shirley and Kat, I am pretty atuned to understanding why characters act how they do, even when they act terribly but even I am struggling to understand Ian's behavior here. It seems he has lost sight of the fact that Beth isn't actually his and Cindy is vulnerable. Any insight would be fabulous.

Though it's pretty fun to see mean Ian on the rampage.

Anyone thinking Ian was unreasonable, unfair or even nasty tonight, Cindy was threatening to reveal a secret which would ruin the lives of: the only two people willing to look after her, despite not being obligated in any way; Bobby's life (I know he killed Lucy and is ridiculously creepy, but he's the only "brother" left in her life and is just a child); her daughter's life; and her own as well.

Just because she doesn't want the baby she insisted on keeping anymore.

How Ian and Jane weren't more horrible to her, I don't understand. They actually did well to only react the way they did.

I mean, yeah, it's bad. But Ian has a history of being awful to people. The way he speaks to people is bad sometimes, and he's a deeply flawed character. I think this kind of thing reinvigorates his character. They can build him back him up again for sure.

It was quite dark tonight, agreed. Wonder what will become of Cindy now? I'm shocked Ian threw her out, even Jane seemed to think that was too far. I wonder will they go down a post natal depression storyline for Cindy to explain her behavior? I don't think she's just being a "brat" tbh!

Exactly. Bobby should be getting professional counselling but Ian and Jane are burying their heads in the sand with him and doing the same with Beth. They have some crazy idea that they whatever decisions they make, everything's going to work out for the best and are not thinking about the consequences for others. In my opinion, Cindy trying to blackmail them was a last ditch attempt to make Ian and Jane listen to her for once. Yes it was wrong, but how can they defend Bobby, who murdered his sister, and throw a vulnerable young girl onto the street just because she wasn't ready to be a mother?

I'm not saying how Ian and Jane have acted is right, but I can understand why, they have acted the way they have.

Agree with your first point, that Ian and Jane should be getting help for Bobby, before it all goes We Need To Talk About Kevin.

Thing is, they're not throwing Cindy out on the streets for not being ready to be a mother. Cindy was making increasingly unreasonable demands, culminating in threatening the lives and well-being of Beth, Bobby, Ian, Jane and herself.

Cindy put herself in a position of power, with threats and blackmail, she 'won' the battle to the potential detriment of her baby daughter and she can't suddenly claim to be an innocent or vulnerable victim in this, now she's been thrown out.

Ian and Jane tried to compromise so that Cindy and Beth could both have a loving home and she threw everything back in their faces.

Cindy turned up Ian's doorstep without notice and he took her in. She then got pregnant and insisted she kept the baby. Ian has supported Cindy and Beth and Cindy suddenly changes her mind and doesn't want Beth after all. She blackmails Ian and threatens his family. Now Ian is not blameless, but Cindys being playing with their emotions and she needs to understand the consequences of her actions. She's at the stage of her life where she is becoming a grown woman, she needs to learn she cannot pick and choose what she does willynilly. She lacks maturity and her demands backfired on her.

So Cindy is nothing to do with Ian, yet somehow her baby is Ian's little girl? Ian's a stupid nasty hypocrite. Such an unlikeable character.

I kind of disagree. Ian and Jane were acting on their own agenda, Jane wanted that baby from the moment she knew Cindy was pregnant and wasn't going to let anything stop her. How did they expect Cindy to react having to live with a baby she didnt want but just expect her to accept it while they played happy families with Beth? Just putting myself in Cindy's shoes for a minute, I can understand why she acted out so badly.
