If soaps had no spoilers

How brilliant would it be tuning into an episode not knowing whats going to happen next, who is going to die, what character is about to return and what affairs/relationships are going to happen, it really would make every episode unmissable. Yes I know, one could choose not to read spoilers beforehand but its a bit hard when you walk into a shop and see spoilers headlined on the cover of a magazine plus hearing them from other people etc, what do other readers think?

When I was a kid I never saw spoilers and it was great because everything was a surprise.

Same here. I'm glad I'm old enough to have been around in those days. There were very, very few spoilers - we just had to wait and see and it was great

It wasn't a soap but the older ones amongst us will remember the excitement with the 'Who Killed JR' storyline in Dallas. That level of excitement around a storyline will never happy again. As a HO fan the nearest I can get to it was the murder of Lindsey xx

I remember it well and I had a mug which had 'I killed JR printed on it'! It really was a huge storyline and I agree, that level of excitement around a storyline will never happen again, it really was amazing.

I loved the days of unspoiled viewing.
You really don't even have to seek spoilers out, in my experience.
Admittedly posting here leaves you open to potentially reading spoilers, but even if you don't post on a forum it seems to me to be a lot harder to avoid spoilers than find them.

I agree about the lack of spoilers being better. But the problem now is that we all know how soaps work and we can see where a story is going with the smallest clue or throw away line.

I totally agree. In the old days before the big soap war signalled the decline of soap production across the board, the suspense of not knowing what was coming next was incredible. I was on the edge of my seat when the Jordache patio cracked in Brookside Close back in 1995.

Nowadays the spoilers are about the TV industry being desperate for viewers rather than a need to inform. Secrecy can still be achieved if desired, just look at the new Star Wars film as a prime example.

Sometimes now I mute the tv before a show, especially Emmerdale is about to start before the voiceover person can tell me what feels like the whole episode plot so I don't know whats coming up, their descriptions can be excessive to me at times
