Daily Mail reporting a story about Sterling and a private jet from Ibiza, which clearly is riveting stuff. In the story though, they suggest that City have upped their bid to 50 million, if there's any truth in that it's time to accept I feel..

We're also linked with him too. Know very little about him tbh.

But hey,hands off he's ours.

Liverpool are strongly pushing to get Asier Illarramendi.

Ohh, at last a more defensive midfielder. Although he younger, I don't think he's really any better than Lucas (or Can for that matter) . If, as rumoured, City are going to prove just how mad they are with a £50m bid for Sterling, then we should be looking at making an offer for very good midfielder such as Carvalho or Schneiderlin. At last start by trying to get someone from the top shelf before looking at the cheaper options.

If we can get Illarramendi for that price then that's great value. Before he went Madrid he looked top drawer just hasn't played much at Madrid. He has more ability than Lucas.

Some reports saying we are favourites for Firmino. Really hope that deal happens!!!

Have read the reports in the Liverpool Echo today saying we are close to Firmino, don't know much about this guy, is he good? would he be the answer to our striking problems? Could he be classed as a marquee signing?

Ian Herbert, Chief Sportswriter at the Independent:

Liverpool’s pursuit of the Roberto Firmino will be central to the club’s transfer market activity in the next 48 hours, with any hope of signing Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke now extinguished.. Firmino was watched frequently by Liverpool last season and the Anfield club appear to be his most likely destination, despite Manchester United’s awareness of him..

Liverpool’s pursuit of Firmino is not as far advanced as reports in the Brazilian press, which suggested a fee of £17.8m had already been agreed. But the club are moving forward with the target, whose acquisition would not be dependent on Raheem Sterling leaving the club.

Real Madrid expect Liverpool’s interest in Denis Cheryshev to firm up if they do lose Sterling.

I imagine we'd have to wait until the Copa America is over, or until Brazil get knocked out, whichever happens first, before anything will happen.

I'd be very excited if we signed Firmino. We do have a habit of signing strikers from middle-of-the-road clubs that are just starting to make a name for themselves, and then they go on to become superstars with us.

Without getting ahead of myself (Firmino might not become that player if he joins us) but he does look very promising.

I would assume there are people at the Copa now talking to his agent and trying to get terms agreed with the player.

We should bite their hand off for that. Hopefully he'll find their bench comfortable because that's were he'll spend most of his time.

A lot of people suddenly claiming to have watched Hoffenheim!

I couldn't tell you anything about Firmino. Never seen him play.

great news and just shows that you can still sign quality players when not in the champions league.

gotta give praise to BR, Ayre and the rest of the committee and staff who are working on these deals. no messing around and looking to get players in early.

Sky Sports are convinced that it's gonna happen.

SkySports reporter Dharmesh Sheth: "Firmino has given #LFC a verbal undertaking that he will join them in the next 24 hours."

SkySports reporter Dharmesh Sheth: "Sources in Germany have also told us that the deal is as good as done for Firmino to #LFC."

There seems to of been a change at how we do things. The club seems to moving quickly on trying to get players in. Looks like a real effort to get players in before pre season.

Guardian reporting we are paying £25 mil up front.

I think the club are trying to get the 'big name' buy before any possible deal for Sterling takes place. No waiting around for this kid even though his @ the Copa America.

Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Brazil forward Roberto Firmino, as talks with Hoffenheim edge closer to reaching agreement over a fee that could potentially rise as high as £29m.

After moving to Germany from the Brazilian second tier club Figueirense, Firmino has spent the past four-and-a-half years in the Bundesliga, scoring 35 goals in 140 appearances, including seven league goals last season as Hoffenheim finished eighth.

Liverpool are likely to have to pay an initial £25m with further fees taking that total nearer £29m, which would make it the second largest transfer in their history. They have had a delegation in Chile watching the 23-year-old at the Copa América, where he scored in Brazil’s 2-1 win over Venezuela on Sunday. The player is intent on continuing his career in the Premier League, with his agent, Roger Wittmann, confirming as much earlier earlier this month, when Manchester United were mooted as being his client’s principal suitors.

Liverpool have taken steps to smooth the third-party ownership issues that would have prevented Firmino moving to England. While doubt continues to surround Raheem Sterling’s future at Anfield, Firmino’s arrival would go some way to demonstrate Fenway Sports Group’s ambitions for the campaign ahead.

The forward can lead the line as a lone striker but will more naturally operate as a No10, a creator as well as scorer. He has also demonstrated a willingness to track back and work in defensive areas which will appeal to Brendan Rodgers. The player is expected to sign a five-year contract at Anfield, and would join Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, James Milner and Joe Gomez in moving to the Merseyside club this summer.

Sterling replacement Cheryshev from Madrid?

@TonyBarretTimes: A deal for Firmino is not yet agreed. Elements of it are. Other issues still to be overcome but Liverpool have made significant headway

I remember saying last summer how I wanted us to sign Firmino, but then he signed a new contract and committed his future to Hoffenheim so I guess that's why the figure is quite high.

Don't think he's going to solve our striking problem but it's an exciting signing nonetheless, assuming it all gets finalised.

Hoping he is one of many upgrades this pre season.

Welcome to Liverpool and who would have thought Ian Ayre could get this done so quickly
