"A tean that concedes 50 goals won't win the league" is no more valid than "A team that scorea 101 goals should win the league". Just the usual hindsight inspired soundbites that are thrown about by pundits. If we'd turned a 0-1 into a 2-1 we'd have won the league conceding 51 goals. We played to our strengths at the time and it nearly paid off. If we'd done a Chelsea and closed games down once ahead, who can say we wouldn't have dropped points hanging on? Blowing teams away early was the recipe that largely worked for us that season. That season should be celebrated given the fact none of us expected such a challenge - the fact we came SO close has, howrver, led to an unfaur level of bitterness and resentment, such was our desperation to win a Premier League title. BR, some players and a lot of fans found it a very difficult thing to get over.

If we are lucky enough to be up there under Klopp, I don't want to see any banners or t-shirts until the job's done - the euphoria and delirium towards the end of that wonderful season led to an amazing atmosphere but ultimately also led to one hell of a crest-fallen downer.

Never celebrate unless you win, that was the problem under Rodgers, he was happy with top 4 we should only be happy when we win the league!!

If it wasn't for Rodgers being gung-ho would we even have been in the position to throw it away?
If Rodgers did not have Suarez in the form of his life would we been in the position to throw it away? Lol i will never like BR look he had 3 years and he also had the whole of another season and the start of another to prove himself.

coming from a side that hasn't won the title in over 20 Years I'm ecstatic with a top 4 finish.

Suarez is Suarez, obviously, if you took him out of the team, it would have an impact, but we've played well with Suarez missing for months..and Rodgers style allowed Suarez to have the impact he did.

You can't re-write history because you don't like Rodgers..

We have played well without Suarez with KLOPP for months (1.5) yes. Sorry you have to be realistic, all these people harping on about how it was such attractive football. TBH id rather see 1-0 scrappy wins and winning the league over 4-3 nail biting wins and losing out on success. I love my team. And tbh I did not enjoy the fairground ride under Rodgers. I want my team to win above anything else I dont care if it is attractive or not. WINNING is what matters to us Liverpool should be challenging for the title, not begging for a top 4 finish.

It was like Keegan for Newcastle in 95/96 I watchded every game with my hands covering my eyes. It was never going to happen, although we did entertain.

That's right, didn't we get off to a flyer (well apart from not being able to score in the second half) without Suarez that season he was suspended for the first 5 games?

If winning is all that matters you should be happy whether we win 10-9 or 1-0.

Yes we did, in fact we won 7 and only lost 1 of the 10 games Suarez was suspended for.

I see a contradiction here. If winning is all what matters then surely it doesn't matter what the score is. Be it 1-0, 4-3, 2-1 etc etc. If the bottom line is simply about winning then what does it matter?

Also since when has 4-3 been nail-biting but 1-0 isn't. Any 1 goal lead is precarious.

Now if you think Liverpool football club hired Klopp simply became all they want is results then I think you are very much mistaken. Were Borussia Dortmund a boring side to watch? Don't you think they looked at how those sides played and came to the conclusion that his philosophy would be a fit here?

What is with the misconception where the choice is either attractive football or non attractive and winning? There doesn't have to be a choice between the two. You can have both.

If it's simply about winning and being bored out of your skull I think you backing the wrong manager as with Klopp it's really not going to be this so called winning scrappy 1-0 wins you seem to love.

As for the comment about begging for a top 4 finish. Grow up. Who who is doing that. A top 4 finish is a start and we go from there.

I have some sympathy with your thinking in that I too want LFC to win the PL above all and that has to be the ultimate aim. Maybe it can happen this season, I hope it can and it is not impossible but I would say it is unlikely given our relatively poor start and how much we still have to make up. Also I would have to say that I still think other teams have more quality than us which makes me think a PL win this season by LFC would be unlikely

If we ended up top 4 this season I would be fairly satisfied - provided there was a mentality within the club at all levels that we had to push on from there next season and try to be even better. With JK in charge I think we can be pretty sure there will be. I felt that 2 seasons ago we came 2nd and then within the club there seemed an attitude that almost expected to finish lower the next season - and I did not like that. Outside the club many said we overachieved and that thinking seemed to make its way into the club. Mind you with how we used the LS money I was not sure myself of improvement - but whose fault was that? - for one thing we needed to play hard ball with Barca and say no LS unless we get Sanchez - but that's another issue and cannot be changed now.

That's right, didn't we get off to a flyer (well apart from not being able to score in the second half) without Suarez that season he was suspended for the first 5 games?
Scoring without LS was harder - it would be wouldn't it!! In the first 5 games when he was suspended we had three 1-0 wins, one draw and one defeat before he came back for the away game at Sunderland which we won 3-1 so immediately we were more potent up front. However in fairness I would also have to point out that at the end of the previous season one of the 5 matches without LS was a 6-0 win away at NUFC so that showed we could score without him too - and there were other games when we scored more than one as well as this one - Sturridge hat trick last game of the season at Fulham?

It's not often I say this, but it's one of the few occasions I'm glad we're playing on the Sunday. Weather should, hopefully, have died away and the conditions much better for playing football ( and travelling ) .

RE Subotic links: I myself have mentioned his name here in the past when BR was looking at CB's . The only thing is, that was when I thought Skrtel was on his way out of the club and we'd need a big, powerful, domineering defender to take his place. Since then we've renewed Skrtel's contract and Subotic has lost form and is low on game time ( of course this might make him cheaper and better value now ) .

I can fully understand Klopp wanting to bring in a player or two he knows well and can trust, and I'll be very surprised if we don't end up taking at least one player from Dortmund between now and next August. But right now our defence seems to be getting a bit more cohesive and playing with better confidence ( although set-pieces remain our vulnerability ) . Bringing in Subotic would mean leaving out who? In fact, even taking into account the probability of Toure leaving in the summer, it would surely mean selling one of CB's .

There still seems to be continuing interest in Moreno from Spain, so a first-team LB might be more of a priority for any January business.

Not gonna bother replying to this as you have gotten personal. I do question whether some of the people who post here are actually Liverpool supporters.

A great man said If you are first you are first. If you are second, you are nothing. Top four will never be enough and I hope Klopp can take us back to the days when that meant something.

Nobody ever said it was enough. CL qualification this year would be seen as nothing short of success.

Been a good weekend of results for us... I just hope we can keep it going tomorrow. If we win, we're right back in the mix.

I loved Klopp before he joined us. I love him even more now he's one of us.

<holds up the white flag>

Hi. Newcastle fan here. Now as you can imagine us Geordies are a little fragile at the moment. Just like our results. Falling away at the seams. Now, I'm not asking you to throw the game because that's just silly or to not play half as well because that would be silly as well and probably enough for you go new us anyway but if you could keep us alive once the 90 minutes are up that would be great. And try not to be too scary in attack so you don't scare our defenders. Well... I say defenders. We don't really have a defence,

Needless to say I'm not optimistic

Confirmed team v Newcastle:

Mingolet/ Clyne, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno// Lucas, Allen, Milner// Ibe, Firmino/ Benteke.

Subs: Bogdan, Randall, Toure, Henderson, Lallana, Sturridge, Origi.

I wonder how much we'll miss Can in midfield? We've certainly some creativity and firepower waiting on the bench today.

My final word on the matter (I hope)

Anyone talking about Hillsborough on a LFC page or forum needs to be very sensitive and if they are not then they can expect to be pulled up on it - no ifs or buts about it, There is no topic on which we feel more strongly - and the LFC fan who told us to 'get over Hillsborough' was just unbelievable. Same goes for Heysel, other disasters and probably a few other sensitive topics too.

What I think is prob unnecessary and what to see cut out if poss is quoting posts and saying things like 'why did you say that it adds nothing to the discussion' or 'you are only repeating what I have already said.'

Yes I do agree that certain posters post stuff that says next to nothing but in general unless it is offensive I ignore it. Yes I also think Eddie and CC are 2 of the most thoughtful DS posters but just cos others are not up to your high standard do not rip into them that's all - and that goes for all of us including me. Heck in recent pages there has even been a row between 3 or 4 MUFC fans which somehow has spilled over onto the LFC thread - what's that all about!!
Alan I fully concur with what you have said here, Heysel and Hillsborough were tragic events that I wish had never happened, they are sensitive topics and rightfully so.

Your re-tweets of the Heysel stuff and your comments on here on Hillsborough suggest otherwise.

And unlike others I'm not willing to forget them.

Thought Origi might have played himself into the starting 11 today, he deserves a chance to start IMO.

Can completely understand why Sturridge and Hendo are on the bench ofc but would have been nice to see them start too. Still got goals in the team with Ibe, Firmino and Benteke playing in the front three and goals on the bench too!
