I think people need to look away from the wages. They are irrelevent. Would it be any better if an injured player was earning £20k a week? More important is the fact we are not seeing him on the pitch rather than what his earning while not playing. It's an unfair stick to beat him with as his just honouring a contract the club gave him.
The club would be insane to just write off such a huge amount by letting him go. His still an asset and while the value of the asset is going through depreciation I still think its better to have him than just give him away.”
I am one who has stuck up for, and will continue to stick up for Sturridge. I am one who believes we should take what we can get from him, keep him and use him while he's fit.
BUT! LFC are a business, and the contract he signed was for the benefit of both parties, Sturridge cannot keep his side of the contract, admittedly through no fault of his own. LFC are in fact writing off his salary as there is no end product, or the Insurance Company has been losing plenty. Now, Insurance Companies will only cover year on year, and by now the premiums on DS will either be horrific, or he will be uninsurable.
Sturridge has got to reach a decision on his future, we know already that he goes through a mass of pain when injured, and during the healing process. Does he want to keep on going through that just to come on the pitch for an hour or so? I doubt it. It must be in his mind that he could end up permanently crippled, and that is what he has to sort out with the LFC medics and other specialists.
My heart really does go out to him for all that.
